Just had an interesting idea. Has anyone ever done a mod that they wished they hadn't? When you saw it you just thought what have I done! If so what was it, what did you do about it, or did you grow to like it?

On the flip side what are the best mods people have done, the most cost effective, that make the biggest improvement or difference to our beloved minis?

Just thought it would be interesting to share our mini mod experiences, or it could just be me being weird! Anyhow thought I'd put it out there...

I had a Silver Richbrook Anti Theft Aerial. It looked very good but unfortunately the black base cover looked cack with it. I decided to paint the base with chrome paint. Unfortunately it came out more pure silver coloured and didn't match the aerial at all Add to this as the aerial was metal and if it caught on anything it bent, such as the garage up and over door. In the end the dealer snapped the whole aerial off when jet washing my car leaving the thread stuck in the aerial base. They drilled it out and replaced with a standard aerial and a black base cover. I never changed it again.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Diadem indicator bulbs, just to see what they look liked, thought they look rubbish.

Yeah, I've got diadems in at the moment. I'm not overly keen and think I'll be replacing them soon!

I have the Richbrook chrome aerial like Root Ginger, would like to put the old back on but can't get the chrome one off, I think it's kinda bonded to the car now so not the best mod.

Still unsure about my Silver and grey union jack roof, seemed like a good idea at the time but now I'm going to keep the MINI indefinitely I'm wonderring what state it will be in years to come Seen a few on other MINI's and they had deteriorated badly

Worst of all mods was fitting an Eisenmann cat back, sounded wonderful but nothing but trouble, blowing, knocking and melted the bumper valence trim, insurance went up by £300 andf it cost me £700 to put everything back to original and only managed to flog the Eisenmann for £250, cost me £875 plus fitting Oh my god, what a mod gone wrong that was haha

Best mod I ever did was buying all the real Mc Coy chrome for the interior and spending a day fitting it, very satisfying transforming the interior and was easy to do....even for me

Interesting what you guys were saying about the Richbrook Anti Theft Aerial. I had one on my old car and removed it before selling. Was considering putting is on the mini but after these comments may give it a miss! Think it would look good though as it's a silver and black but don't think it's worth the risk!

The chrome Richbrook tax disk holder looks good though!

Think I may look at the chrome interior bits too, if it's easy to fit?!

Think I bought most of my interior chrome from MOSS MINI EUROPE but that was 3 years ago and was a bit expensive £30 to £40 piece, the plastic chrome bits are ok and much cheaper. The chrome from MOSS MINI had 3M tape on them which made fitting a doddle so long as you positioned the chrome correctly on the first go as once it sticks it sticks

Reminded me, richbrook tax disc holder. Looked overly clunky and after going through a few sticky pad things gave up with the thing, gone to a descreet 99p black holder.

I dread changing the tax disc it's takes me an hour undoing all those fiddly screws on the Richbrook holder and even worse putting it back together and trying to get the tax disc so its not upside down

If you like the Richbrook style, they now do one with a twist off back.
