was in an accident :(

was driving home from work on friday night, and i was driving at 30 mph (roughly) on a single laned road. Cut a long story short i swerved out of the way of what appeared to be a large pothole in the road, this caused me to lose control of the car, it spun 180 degrees and shunted parralel against the curb causing the passenger side airbag to go off. Anyways, i am severly bruised along my whole side and now havea bill from BMW of 2700 to fork out. Now either i claim on my insurance and lose my 4Y NCB or pay out. A very sad James

Hope you get it fixed soon.... glad you're okay!

Must have been a bad surface for the MINI to spin so easily!

You poor dear! I'm glad to hear that you came out of it with just bad bruises because it sounds like it could have been much worse. I'm thinking the road must have been slick for your car to spin out of control like that.

Not sure if it would make any difference but it may be worth investigating the scene. A huge pothole and a surface to make you spin at that speed sounds like there may be a situation where you can claim against the council (or highways agency, or someone?!)?

I would think you are almost definately entitiled to compensation if it was the state of the road that caused your crash, you should phone claims direct or one of those companies on TV. You might get money for repairs plus damages for yourself, its worth a try?

Putting aside the ifs, buts and maybes for a moment, and my sensible head on for a change, it seems to me that the maths is really quite simple.

Look at how much your insurance will go up by if you claim, and times by four. This will give you the worst-case-scenario figure of what it will cost you to go through your insurance (it will actually be less than this, as the figure will reduce every year from now on that you remain claim-free) and if this figure is less than £2,700 do it that way. If it isn't, don't.

Sorry to hear of this. Hope the bruises aren't too bad. I would have thought 4 years worth of discounts + increase from accident is worth less than £2700? If you pay for the damage outside of the insurance, could this cost increase if further damage is discovered when it's being repaired? good luck
