Must conceed that the R56 is a hoot to drive..

HI all,
Ok, so despite really not liking many visual aspects of the new Cooper S I decided while my car was at the dealership that I should drive one rather than moaning about how it looks.

Drove a 1st gen Cooper S first as a reference point, loved it, all the feel of my Cooper with lots more power.

Was very impressed with the new Cooper S, the engine is great, noticably a little quicker than the 1st gen S - missing the lovely whine of the Supercharger of course and as previously discussed quite loud in the tappet noise department.
I thought the handling and general feel of the car was superb, although I didn't like the lighter steering (somehow the wheel also felt less chunky), but this would be the only negative comment I could make.

Interior-wise I would love to see a cross between the 1st and 2nd gen, such as the more tactile materials of the new interior with the superb design of the old (plus a few little improvements....better cupholders for those of you on the other side of the pond who like Big Gulps) - now that would be something..

Still not sold on the actual look of the car and items such as the carpet style wheel arch liners have me wondering - "why"?

However, well worth the effort to learn more about the new model and it is certainly an amazing drive.

Not so happy with the end result however as I now want an S..
I love my Cooper, but now I just have to have the Supercharger - please wish me luck in finding the exact same or better spec but in an S
Or.........is there just some easy way to just bolt the Supercharger onto what I already have?

Drainaudio,

Good post, and I would agreed with pretty much everything you've said. I remember when you bought your Cooper (last Dec IIRC, ex-demo).

I too had the itch after driving the R56 S, and tried the supercharged S (just a little bit more fun if you ask me) - but after searching high and low for a carbon copy S of my Cooper I couldn't...

Although I love the Supercharged, and the Turbo, I really think that the Cooper does take some beating - I love mine to bits, and also have a very high spec AstroBlack Cooper - the drive is so engaging, the engine perfect and full of character, the steering 'grippy' and accurate - plus, the streamlined look of the Cooper bonnet with it's curves is pretty gorgeous.

Stick with yer Coop

Jay
