Urgent Help Needed!!

I have just arrived back from the South of France with my parents after hearing that our flat was burgled and the flat under us!! All we know at the moment is it happened on the 13th during the day. They took our TV and my spare key. Luckily my car was parked away from the area. But what do I do about my car now, cause they have my other remote key. Do I have to have all the locks changed and new keys for the car or what? And how much do you think it will cost to get done? Any help would be appreciated.

As far as I know as I lost a remote key is that it can be deactivated and a new one put onto the system by BMW.

I think the computer chip can be set to stop or alow keys so don't worry just visit your BMW dealer and get them to deactivate it.

Yeah the key can be deactivated.

It was acceptable in the 80's

If I get the key deactivated, can't they still open the car with the key on the drivers door?

But they can still nick all your stuff!

The alarm will go off though if you open the car with a deactivated key but it is obviously still a risk.

if you've got an alarm that is !

You're better off safe than sorry and getting new keys & locks - insurance will cover the cost.

My parents had a spare car key stolen (Peugeot) and the insurance company paid for new locks & keys - subject to excess. But as it would have cost over £400, it was worth it.

Hi I got the key deactivated today, but they said that thay can't change the locks until the new year. Tipical!! I was told that it would cost about £500 to change the lock and control unit for the alarm. And my insurance company will only pay £100 towards the cost. I baught a steeringwheel lock to help in the meantime while I wait to get the locks changed. I took everything out of the car that I could.
