I've got some Turtle Wax Colour Magic Plus Wax Polish which I'm hoping will work.

Very sorry to hear that, Inga.

My MINI's right door got violated in a similar manner a few months ago. Right down to the metal. I was gutted. There seems to be a certain part of society that will just never do well, and they act out on other people's property out of jealousy...

I ended up paying for it out of my own pocket, since it wasn't worthwhile claiming on the insurance.
However, he's back from the sprayer's now, and is better than new!

Hope you can get yours sorted soon.

Blimey, where was it parked???????? They always say that there is always someone else worse off - but that is unbelievable!

Vandalism is the most annoying thing ever. Back in June, I was nearly reduced to tears (Yes I am a bloke!!!And it was either cry, or punch someone - and I didn't want to end up being prosecuted!) when some 7 year old kids decided to scratch my bonnet on a pub car-park (Yes I caught them doing it) whilst their parents were sat in the pub getting drunk and having a laugh.. The parents at the time said to let them know if I can't get the scratches out and if you have to get it sprayed, and gave me their mobile number - which rang out every time I tried it. After tracking them down via. people in the pub (Getting their home number and address) they are declining all responsibility for it now (Which they can - kids are younger than 10) and coming out with a whole loads of incorrect facts which I don't want to hear, including, they claim that they were outside supervising their kids (How come I fell over them walking out of the pub to see what the kids were doing to my MINI) and that they said they would only sort something out if I used their brother-in-law who is a qualified sprayer and would get the scratches out (Not a BMW/MINI approved sprayer, although he is probably as good, I wanted some comeback incase it went t*ts up etc).

I had to have my bonnet re-sprayed at a cost of £390. I paid this myself as I didn't want to claim on my insurance. I try not to think about it, as it still frustrates me.

Someone should start a campaign against these kind of idiots!

As they say, I know where they live!!! Although I will not do anthing that will get me into trouble - that would mean they would win twice, and I'm not giving them that satisfaction. Even a contribution to the cost would be less of an insult!

Anyway, I'm going to have a good Christmas and stick two fingers up to these mindless fools

Sorry for moaning, I feel better now!

Very sorry to hear about whats happened Try not to let it get you down.

Run your fingernail over the scratch and if you can feel it as you run your nail across it then its a spray job needed to et rid of it. It wont polish out. If not, then try some meguairs scratch X. I would steer clear of the turtle wax stuff though and make sure you dont use T-Cut. If you cant get it out by hand then it may be a good idea to get someone to use a random orbit or rotary polisher on it.

Hope this helps

PM if you need any more help!

Dan

Good luck - I hope you get your MINI fixed soon. Can't believe there are people in the world who would deliberately hurt a MINI!

Question Advice needed please on repairing scratches

I'm thinking that as the scratches are very big, I won't be able to repair it myself by using touch-up paint and polish.

I've called ChipsAway and they won't do it because the area is too big. So I either get it done at BMW which I'm guessing is going to cost a fortune or go to a different bodyshop.

I'm really worried about giving my car to any old bodyshop because I want my car to look as new when I get it back.

Can anyone suggest of where I can go or give me good stories of how you repaired your car through independent bodyshops and you were happy with the work?

Thanks for your help.

Inga

Hi Inga
Try getting a quote from a BMW bodyshop or two, and see what prices they come back with. They might not be as expensive as you think. After a recent knock, although an insurance job, i insisted the work was done at a BMW bodyshop, and used the bodyshop in my dealership group in Aylesbury. I had a new rear bumper fitted and spayed, and the colour match was perfect. Scotthall Borehamwood also has it's own bodyshop on site, which is a bit nearer to you .

I don't know if it helps you, being across the pond and all, but when I had to have my MINI's key damage repaired I went to a private shop that is well regarded by both the dealership and the discerning Calgary motorist. It's a family owned & operated shop that does almost all the Ferrari and Lamborghini work in town, along with high end BMW, Porsche etc. It took me 7 weeks from the day I called to get a booking, and it took them a week and a half to get my MINI back to me, but I would venture to say that the whole side looks like factory new, if not better. Cost was comparable really.

It may very well be the same in your neck of the woods, a privately owned shop that might be a bit slower to get the work done but does exceptional work.

I'm getting a quote from Borehamwood tomorrow as thhey are near my work. I'm getting some touch up paint from Watford in the morning but I'm not sure if they have a bodyshop on site, but I may as well ask if they can give me a quote.

Thanks for the advice.

There isn't a body shop at Scotthall Watford, they send all there bodyshop work to Borehamwood. As does the dealership in Ruislip. When my MINI was being repaired at the BMW bodyshop in Aylesbury, which is part of a BMW dealership and only sold BMW's and no MINI's, they had not only MINI's in to be repaired but lots of different makes as well. Makes such as Honda's and Ford's. I didn't even get a bottom of the range BMW as a courtesy car either, just bog standard Fiesta. So despite them being part of a BMW dealer, I'm thinking price wise that pretty much all bodyshops are in compertition with one another, whether part of a dealer or independent.
