Makes such as Honda's and Ford's. I didn't even get a bottom of the range BMW as a courtesy car either, just bog standard Fiesta. So despite them being part of a BMW dealer, I'm thinking price wise that pretty much all bodyshops are in compertition with one another, whether part of a dealer or independent.

That is very interesting!! I didn't realise that!!

Well I'm going to MINI Borehamwood tomorrow and on Tuesday I'm going to an independent garage car repairers(MDS) in Borehamwood so I can compare prices.

One scratch is on the drivers side end panel the length of the passenger back window, the other two are on the boot either side of the MINI badge going horizontally across the boot. Luckily they don't look too deep but the marks are so big I don't know if I'm going to have to get it fixed professionally or if polish will help.

Why would someone do that? Because they are so jealous of my car that they have to wreck it??? It makes me so angry!

It was parked outside my friends house so there's no chance of finding out who did it, but if I ever did know who did it then they'd better run!! W*****s!!!!!

I need your help again guys!

I have 2 quotes - one from BMW Borehamwood, the other from an independent accident repair centre. The accident repair centre are quoting £325.55p, MINI are quoting £955.10p. I asked BMW what they are doing and they are taking badges off boot, taking off the drivers side rear wheel trim and the boot handle and the rear lights, taking off the drivers side wing mirror, then they are respraying the whole boot and a bit round the passengers side rear panel so it blends, then respraying the drivers side rear panel and the drivers door so it all blends.

Unfortunately I don't have a picture but the scratch is only over the rear wheelarch so why are they spraying my door too? Has anyone needed panels resprayed? Is a MINI different to other cars when respraying as I'm confused what BMW are doing?

I'm going to ask the independent garage what they are going to do as it seems a very large difference between prices.

MINI is £42 per hour labour, independent is £30 per hour.

MINI say it'll take 7 working days to do , independent garage say they'll need it overnight to make sure the paint blends correct.

Will the accident repair do as good a job as BMW? I knew BMW would be a lot but will there be 3 times difference in quality of repairs? I don't know what to do or whho to go with as I want my car to look like new!

Any help greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Inga

This is the correct way to do it, and is the same manner in which my MINI was repaired. If you don't take off the trim and don't blend into the adjacent panels, it will definitely show through as a second rate repair job.

Having said that, I don't know why they're redoing the entire boot and taking off the wing mirror if the scratches are in the rear quarter panel. You may wish to ask them why, and they may have a good explanation.

IMHO, with bodywork, you tend to get what you pay for.... What kind of reputation does Borehamwood have?

Here are a few pictures of what the did to my car. The two scratches on the boot join up and was too big to take in one picture. As my car is so shiny and dirty, it's a bit difficult to see the scratches but it'll give you all an idea!! The scratch above the wheel arch is the worse one!

My MINI has gone in for repair today into an independent garage and I hope it'll be looking like new when I get it back on Wednesday!

I think if the culprits were to be caught there should be an ironic/relevant punishment.

Like them have to endure being 'keyed' until they are all scratched. Might make them think twice before committing an act of needless vandalism. At them moment, it would probably go to magistrates, where they wouldn't turn up, then get a fine and pay costs, which they probably wouldn't. Then the courts would spend money on bailiffs, and you'd probably never receive recompense.

I hope your MINI comes back looking as good as new, and you can put the hassle/expense behind you.
