Mileage???? Hi everyone, I bought a cooper s with colour coded bits and a remap on for £10500 in september Spec: 02 reg blue and black leather blue carpets climate control cd player and changer etc mileage was 35K when i got the car I love the car to bits as i did with my previous Mini One, but i've now done 40k miles and i'm wondering if it is going to be "high mileage" not sure what different people think to mileage and what miles different people have on their cars and how much longer they plan on keeping them, in a funny place at the moment ! Main reasons are obviously wear and tear and also resale value if ikeep the car for 2 years for example. All comments welcome! |

| Yeah i know what dealers are like, i always work privately for that reason, i just go to dealers to test drive cars I had in my head the 50k mark for high mileage, but looking at auto trader prices on minis', most people don't seem to know what to sell the car at so resale with it's current mileage shouldn't be a problem and considering how nice it looks Thanks for the advice! will have a look around! only problem is i'm 19 and i've spoilt myself buying the car becuase nothing in the same price range comes anywhere near AT ALL so i only look at minis! |

| I tend to use the 40k marker as this is what Porsche use, and its the business model that the MINI is based upon with all the options and personalisation, so the only thing to compare it to. Know what you mean about spoiling yourself, you spend loads of getting it the way the want it, do 20k miles a year in it as its such a hoot to drive, then next thing you know you are having to plan on getting rid of it ![]() The other thing to bare in mind is that the biggest hit is in the first few years, so the loss per year/mile will decrease over time, so you'll actually be loosing less putting the miles on at some point than if you were to be putting them on a new car. Its just that with those miles the ages and the servicing bills will start to come in |

Yep! One free service left! need to look at the next one then, maybe get something with 20 something miles on and then enjoy that for a lot longer, so i think plan might be to sell mine for a nice price and get a cheap run about then look around for a nice mileage with good spec etc for a good price! hmmm....................... |

| yeah right, I thought all that, but then when it came to get rid I couldn't do it ![]() I've decided to go another year or two with mine, so what if its got 60k on the clock, all of those will have been the most fun I could have ![]() And there is always TLC XL you can buy when you have the last service |

hhhmmm.... why did i ask you!? you tell me one thing then another, i don't know i'll end up doing something at some point i suppose and the mini world will be well informed |

| looks like all your questions answered! my cooper was sold with 42k, 2 and a bit years old, and they said they would have offered £800 if it had "average" approx 25k, miles. Not to bad I think ![]() They also told me that they consider 50k to be high mileage. I have always kina thought this on MINIs but bought up as a child where the norm was 4yrs 100k for everything, at around 50k the mini is hardly run it ![]() |

| For most cars, the real milestones in mileage (i.e. when the dealers will drop the price by a chunk) are : 0 to 20,000 miles Most people would accept that a car was virtually 'new' in this range. Unless the car is at the high end of this range within the first year, it is unlikely to get spanked on value because of mileage - you should get a strong trade-in valuation. 20,001 to 40,000 miles In this range, most people would argue that the car was 'low mileage', and not many people would argue. Expect trade-in valuation to get hit if you are towards the top end of this range. 40,001 to 70,000 miles Here, mileage starts to be a concern when retailing a 2nd hand car. You can certainly still sell them, but the number of buyers who will buy at the high end of this range will reduce dramatically - particularly for small cars like the MINI. No doubt at this mileage that the price will start to be affected. 70,001 to100,000 miles Last chance to trade to a franchised dealer for anything like a reasonable price. Expect trade in price to be seriously compromised by the mileage. Personally, I think that the best mileages (regardless of age) to trade a car in at are 28,000 miles, 38,000 miles or 55,000 miles. After that, you're gonna either take a big hit, or you're gonna be stuck with it forever. |
