i'm a southerner-moved-north, and we had an ice storm the week after i bought my MINI. Nothing works well on ice. Period. But honestly, sometimes the most important thing is the driver. lack of experience and fear for my new car meant I was super cautious. Slow and steady, I made it back from work in 2nd gear on the interstate, with a lot of room around me. In the span of the 7 miles, I saw several dozen cars slid off the road at various spots.

It helps that everyone thinks small cars are bad in snow ... they stay away and don't do stupid things around me
