Offline | I'm more than happy with it .... I prefer engine noise in general but the standard sound system is more than adequate for daily driving (I don't hold raves in my motor )Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | It's not for loud music I find it most terrible, any speech (five live) or just about any music with any depth sounds shallow and tinny with the standard system. Flat, tinny, and just, well, rubbish. That's my opinion anyway. Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | I think I must just be used to it. All of my MINIs have had the standard system, and ive never been in another MINI with HK or Hi-Fi for any length of time ![]() |

Offline | Vista is as bad as you want to make it. It does the job; makes installing/deploying windows far easier, and has given a surprised lease of life to some of our older hardware that was snailing on XP. To administer, it's a doddle. *ON TOPIC* You could apply the same idea to the R56. It gets you A to B, the D is economical, S is fast, Cooper is refined. The stereo works (very well in terms of FM reception!), it's small, easy to drive (when you want it to be), does wonders around sharp bends and is like a go kart. It's all based on opinion and circumstances. To me, the R56 S (with JCW Aero Kit in Black) looks very sexy and mean, goes fast, but also can drive sensibly. The interior was at the bottom of the list. However, I find the "normal" centre console and steering wheel (plus stalks) to be very acceptable. If I was going for a long-cruiser, I wouldn't have got the JCW stuff and used that money to tart up the interior with extras. With my ears (being a DJ and audiophile), the R56 stereo with Hi-Fi Loudspeaker system is perfectly fine with loud music. Again, it's down to opinion . |

Offline | I sell technology too and the products we sell change regularly. 60% of the time it's a genuine improvement, 30% of the time it's no more than a cosmetic revamp and 10% of the time the new product is significantly inferior to the product it replaced. Just because a design is new, it doesn't necessarily mean it's better (Vista?); it has to be evaluated on its own merits every time. Just because someone doesn't accept the new product it doesn't necessarily mean that they are a ludite, they might just have a point... ![]() Unintimated and I'm back!! ![]() For sunshine, fun and Cornish Pasties: New MINI Kernow Cornish Oggy Run 2009! |

| M5 Extraordinare! | Ya I agree... its VERY VERY Rare that I would like a older style car over a new one... I cant remember another car that this is the case... the MINI is like the only car where I think the previous model is better than the newer model. I hope there will be more like that for me in the future so I wont want to sell my old car. ![]() |

Offline | Tigger we met in Midhurst a few weeks ago and you seem a really nice guy but it would be good if you could try to be a little positive. As I've said in many threads, I've owned and/or driven R50s/R53s and I still prefer my R56. Let people make their own decisions without continually bashing the new improved model. Offline | I love the old ones more than the new ones, and when the new ones first came out I hated them until I saw one on the road. They are nice asthey are but when the aero kit is added they really do transform. I also like the turbo, sounds imense. I would have one BUT I would rather gave an r53 ![]() |

Offline | Prefer R53. Sorry R56 owners. I've had R56 S for a week, Cooper and CooperD for a couple of days. There are things that annoy me about them. At the lauch of R56 I didn't like them after the test drive but they did grow on me when having them as a Courtesy car. I think the R56 is more like a small BMW. This is what you want; ![]() On my way to 240 |

Offline | Let's pose a question.... are people here that own the R53 and prefer it over the R56... is it because it emulates the classic mini in a modern outfit? Is this the major reason why? If not, what are the reasons? What have BMW missed in the R56? IMO, the R56 still looks like a MINI, it has a real go-kart feel when I push it to its limits and contains now a bit of sensiblity the classic didnt have. |

Offline | That would be my reason because it emulates the 'classic' and BMW have done a great job with MINI and the R56 is a great car but I prefer the R53. But don't get me wrong I like BMW and i'll probably own one or two further down the line. ![]() On my way to 240 |

Offline | the R56 is a great car but it doesn't drive the same as the R53 and lacks the sense of threatre. I can understand why the changes have been made to the R56 to make it more refined as other car manufactures have done the seem eg Civic Type R. ![]() On my way to 240 |

Offline | An interesting challenge to think of an example. How about.... 1976-1986, Rover SD1 Vs 1986 - 199?, Rover 800 Okay, the SD1 was a pile of cr*p (V8 aside), but it was always a stunner! ![]() Unintimated and I'm back!! ![]() For sunshine, fun and Cornish Pasties: New MINI Kernow Cornish Oggy Run 2009! |
