Offline | Plastic Key? Phone Option? I just bought a 2005 MINI from a dealer where it was a trade-in, so they didn't know a ton about it. There is a plastic key that came with the two keys, but I don't know what its purpose is. Also, there is a phone button on the steering wheel but I'm not sure if the phone option is installed, how would I know? Thanks!! |

Offline | The plastic key is a spare key/backup. Works like the other keys (no remote, obviously), and is purely a backup if you lose or somehow break both the others. Not sure on the phone option I'm afraid. Oh, and welcome to MINI2. Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | No such thing as keyless entry until the new, 2nd generation MINIs. You may have "comfort access", which means holding the unlock key on the ignition and/or holding it in the "unlock" position in the door lock will open the windows and (if you have one) sunroof. | Remember | Does the MINI have an armrest with a position to fit a phone? If not then it doesn't have the factory phone kit installed, these buttons were added from around Jan 05 to all MFSW's regardless of if the phone kit was specced. However, you can buy a parrot kit from NewMINIStuff.com that has an interface to use these buttons and give a bluetooth handsfree phone kit in your MINI ![]() The only problem I have is knowing which one to drive? ![]() |
