Scotland Someone hit my wifes car

Howdy, its been a while I know, and I`m here because I`m in a bit of a pickle.

Some guy ran into the back of my wifes car, my wife got out to talk to the guy, but he didn`t.
The man rolled down his window and said "I`m not giving you my details, it was just a nudge and there is probably no damage" then drove away. (I know what she should have done, but she didn`t) (Oh, and the guy wasn`t a mini driver)

Guess what..........big dent......new boot lid.

Gone through the insurance and they are going to send him a letter, and we will see what happens, but this guy is a ****, obviously, giving orders and being intimidating to a lady, my wife, so there is a chance he will deny everything.

So, to the point, I have his registration, make and model, in this day and age, with all the hi-tech everywhere, and the fact that I`d rather not sit on the road where the hit and run happend at 7am, waiting for him then following, is there a way to trace the reg via the interweb ?
I know that private carpark owner can access this information, so they can post out parking tickets, but I don`t own a carpark, and I dont have any friends that do either.

I`m not going to do anything nasty, its just me planning for the future, if he does deny it ever happened, I might go see him, convince him to do the right thing (or maybe just throw a brick through his windows) Joking, bwahahaha

Thanks in advance peeps

All the best

Birdog

don't reckon you'll find out his details unless you've got friends in the right places and it's a good thing because if you can find out theirs they can find out yours

definitely report it to the police asap, she didn't report it straight away as she was so shaken up

hope they do the ******

ASAP even tonight go report to police mention you think he had no insurance as he drove off quick. I'm sure your wife had a bit of neck pain therefore failing to stop at a PI (personal injury) accident = major grief for him. For your wife's benefit GET her checked out at docs. My mum had exactly the same, pain didn't come on for 3 days 12 years and 3 operations later (private medical insurance) still hasn't gained full use of left hand PI accident police will deal a lot more vigorously and with doc's note compo is possible and makes case stronger. Any Q's please PM me. may be able to help tho no guarantees (see above post!)

Report it to the police. I had the misfortune of someone rolling back into me at traffic lights and then failing to stop to exchange details. I took down the driver's registration plate and make/model of car and reported it to the police the following morning. There was no damage to my car, but there may have been to his (MINIs are tough little cars), and I didn't want any comeback should he try to falsely report me for driving into the rear of his car.

The following is from the Highway Code:

Quote:
260: If you are involved in an accident which causes damage or injury to any other person, vehicle, animal or property, you MUST
  • stop
  • give your own and the vehicle owner's name and address, and the registration number of the vehicle, to anyone having reasonable grounds for requiring them
  • if you do not give your name and address at the time of the accident, report the accident to the police as soon as reasonably practicable, and in any case within 24 hours.
    Law RTA 1988 sect 170
261: If another person is injured and you do not produce your insurance certificate at the time of the accident to a police officer or to anyone having reasonable grounds to request it, you MUST
  • report the accident to the police as soon as possible and in any case within 24 hours
  • produce your insurance certificate for the police within seven days.
    Law RTA 1988 sect 170

He has committed at least one offence here, and the police will have access to the owner's address through the DVLA (provided the car wasn't stolen). They should deal with him rather than you taking the law into your own hands.

Good luck.

We had a crash a few years back, two cars involved plus one who caused the accident (we both verified this) who drove away. The police were not in the slightest bit interested in the drive-away car, even though it was their fault, and they drove away leaving us trapped in our car.

Same, report it to the gathers, and make sure your wife tells them this guy was threatening which is why she didn't report it. What a nasty ****.
Perhaps you can a friend who witnessed the whole thing

My mum had the same thing happen to her, I think its sadly men who think there above everyone else, this guy was driving a big 4x4 when he nudged my mums Rover. She got out, he just sat in his car and shrugged his shoulders. She didnt get his no plate but noticed where he pulled in further up the road where he worked, I met him there the following morning! Threatened him (not at all like me) and he suddenly became all apologetic! Luckily there was no damage done, it was just his arrogance that really annoyed me.

I'd report it to the police, at least here you have the guys reg no, tell them he was threatening, get your wife to the Dr and really go to town on the whole thing, that way he might think twice next time he does it!

Yes - REPORT it to the police...
I'd parked up in a car park and popped into a shop, leaving my (very intelligent and quick thinking) 10 yr old lad in my car. He knows how funny i am about parking so when some "A"-hole bumps into the front of my car whilst trying to park, my son took his registration. This "man" also tried to speak to my son - I'd left the window down a touch, then tried to open the door of my car!!!! OMG!!!
Fine - you might say i shouldn't have left my child in the car - ok I agree with you to a point, but thats not wots in question. He then drove off.
Ok, so i was so furious!!!! - He'd left a couple of scuff marks on the bumper, which had he either left his details or waited until I came back and explained, I wouldn't have minded - I'm pretty reasonable - but he'd pi**ed off!!!! So out of principle I went to the cop shop - explained what had happened and they ran a check on the reg plate and got in touch with him and gave him a severe telling off - not only for bumping and running, but for trying to enter my car knowing there was a child in there.
I only hope he got a scare when the copper rang!!! PMSL!!!
Ahhh, well! Thats my story! Carry on........!!!

I'd make sure he's not some drug addict or something before you go round his house as for all you know he could have a knife or something, still the police won't do anything so if you know someone who'll go round and get the money for the boot lid, you just need someone big so the guy'll be so scared he gives you the money no fuss no muss

Angry

shocking stuff, I'd suggest you go and sit where it happened, wait for him, then try to persuade him to cough up or give insurance details. At least you'll find out what sorta bloke ur dealin with.

on the same note, this happened to me in great western rd,glasgow on sunday - parked the car for 10mins, got home and noticed this : scumbags!! no note or nothing and no cars close by, they must have went to reverse into a space, hit me, then done a runner without even parking! pretty bad damage for being parked!
