Registration for new Mini? - MINI2

A question for those of you who have recently taken delivery of a new Mini:

How close to the delivery date does the dealer give you the registration number?

The reason I ask is that my delivery date is the 20th March and I still have no registration and would like to get things like insurance sorted out.

Took delivery of mine on 1st March and got given reg number about 2 weeks before. Dealer said they won't start giving reg nos until your car is delivered to them. Not sure how accurate this is.

got my car last thur,, got the reg on the monday before that.

your dealer should give you a number to call for mini's free 7 day insurance too, so they can tax the car for you.

It's 12 days until my Dooper is supposed to be handed over to me but I have officially heard nothing from the dealer!! A bit worried now too-

I think I'll pop down to the dealer this afternoon and see what is happening.

Do not worry with the 7 day free mini insurance they only need the registration a few hours before you take delivery as they e-mail the dealer the cover note to tax it etc and you get 7 days to look for a better quote....

I got mine a few days before delivery but this could change from dealer to dealer...
