I'm still not sure.... although you can now spec Mellow Yellow on a Cooper Convertible, which I think suits it better than Liquid Yellow, still not sure on the R56 though...
Saw a Mellow Yellow Cooper S on the motorway yesterday - looked fantastic, much better than LY in my opinion. If I ever return to MINI ownership I would actually be very tempted to go for MY!
Although I currently drive a BRG/White Cooper, I do prefer mellow mellow to the liquid yellow. I think they look good with a black roof. May get that colour combination on my next one.
I think the problem with the one I saw was it had the body coloured roof and no stripes. So it looked very plain.
As for MY/W, this combination works much better than LY/W ever did. The white works well against the darker yellow. I've never seen a LY/W MINI which I've really liked (no offence to LY/W owners out there). They always look a little insipid. Black seems to provide a bit of contrast (under-statement if ever there was one ) and makes it look sportier.
On MY/B, I think there is more risk of it looking 'waspy', but from all the photos I have seen I like this combination. It seems the natural progression from my own MINI.
For me a well turned out LY car with a few accents (stripes or interesting decals) looks nicer than MY at the moment. MY looks a bit Council Gritting Truck without a contrast roof and stripes.
Dark Silver Vipers on an all MY car looks cool though
