Between a Rock and a Hard Place...Help

Hi all,

I have recently ordered a new R56 MCS due the end of this month/beginining of next month...

anyhow...this is a long tale so I hope I get it correct.

Currently my MINI One requires taxing, but in order to get it taxed it needs an MOT (it has hit the 3yr marker - and yes it is my fault but I thought It only needed to be done before the 4th years taxation).
In order to be certified I will most likely need 4 new tyres (they are still legal but I know how picky the garages can be when it comes to MOT).

Anyhow, the prediciment is...I have already signed all papers (bar the recieving delievery paper) with the garage for my MCS. This includes trading my MINI One in as they saw it. Now you see I don't fancy forking out £200 ish for a new set of tyres for the dealer to get the benefit and leave me £200 out of pocket (which could go on mods ).

Will the dealers kick off with the still legal tyres on the S Spokes? If so am I better off buying new tyres and just having to 'like it and lump it'? Or with me signing everything am I ok?

The only option I can think of is buy a cheap set of alloy rims w/ tyres, then when it comes to delivery day, take them off and put my S Spokes back on, and then sell the alloys on ebay...

If anyone else has any good ideas, please throw me a bone as I'm currently tearing my hair out..

Thanks in advance guys.

If the tyres are legal it should pass the MOT no problem, so I cant see the issue here.

I've done quite a bit of searching regarding legal limits and I cant understand the interpretation some say 3mm some say 1.6mm and others 6mm?

1.6mm according all sources I've seen (including, for what they're worth, Halfords Advice Centre - Prepare your car for the MOT and http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_410.htm).

Cheers Paul. Not sure what other options I have now, thinking the new alloy wheel/tyre package could be the only way to do it. Other than fork out for the new tyres etc and try and see if the MINI dealers will offer some sort of compen package for sorting it out before they had to...

They appraised your car for what it is in legal condition, providing it goe through the MOT with tyres above 1.6mm, you shouldn't have a prolem here.

Found a solution to my predicament, going via the referbed tyre route. Will save me a tidy sum rather than new tyres and then last me til my MCS arrives.

Thanks for the help anyhow guys.

Problem seems to be sorted regardless - MINI said they'd take my car and MOT/tax and new tyres for nothing as its a 'quick sell' for them. Don't fancy letting them have it before the finalisation of finance is sorted...aparently it would only be on the forcourt a week and then be gone (dont fancy not having a car if things didnt work out hehe).
