Offline | Hi all, I almost couldn't have written this. Saturday morning 8am when I was driving back from work (club) I had an accident with almost fatal ending. A little further than my work there is a huge turn to the right. Normally no problem for my Mini, wasn't it that it had rained a lot and .... SOME *******S PLACED BRICKS ON THE ROAD !!!! I couldn't avoid them and I went straight into them. I went over them with my bumper but not my wheels... I got smacked into the air and when I reached ground my car began to spin. I tried to get my car under control together with my ABS ... result I stopped spinning just a meter from a huge wall and there was also no car coming from the other side !! The only damage I have is a scratched botom of my bumper and 2 flat runflat tyres... The dealer told me that because of the runflat tyres I'm still alive. The ABS got hold because they didn't go flat all the way .... SO THank you 16" runflats, thank you MINI !!!!!! I was extremely lucky and must have a very BIG guardian angel !!! Just wanted to tell this ... makes me feel a lot better! (still shaking) Morty |

Offline | Glad you're OK. How were the bricks placed? In a line across the road (i.e. someone purposely placed them there), or scattered (like they fell off a truck/lorry)? Have you talked to the police? Chip H. ex-MINI Cooper S owner and all around good-guy |

Offline | They were "nicely" placed on 2 lines ..... So that would make it .. on purpose !! I wasn't the only one ... there were other cars who had hit them also ... but I was first so they were scattered accross the road and the other cars didn't have any damage. SO we decided with a few other guys to clear the road and then we called the police. "Good job" they said ... "Is the road clear?" "Fine ... so we don't have to come anymore" .. Police .. so typical. |

| MINI2 Senior | Hi Morty, glad to hear your MINI 'performed' well. Bricks on the road? Man, must have been some stoned idiot who thought he was funny to ruin people's cars (like putting stones on train rails). Hope this doesn't happen to you anymore (and anybody else on this forum). MINI saved the day.... Safe driving. Daver ======================================= ---There can be only ONE--- ---Trust no ONE--- |

Offline | Morty, Also glad you're all right. I didn't miss the your message regarding run-flats and the ability of ABS to still be effective even when tires are flat. Especially critical for someone like myself who is considering replacing the run-flats with lighter Z-rated non-run flat tires. I'm assuming your dealer is "saying" that non-run flats are more problematic for ABS to work with when they are flat. If so, worthy of my consideration. Thanks, Norm |

Offline | Sorry to hear about your accident. The important thing is your OK and that your MINI performed well and did its best to protect you. When I test drove a MINI I was less than thrilled with the ride of the 17 inch run-flats. Now, after hearing your story, I think I will gladly have run-flats on my MINI. |
