Offline | Spots fitted at dealer - but not working. Advice? Hi guys. ![]() Well today I took my car to my local MINI dealership to have some spotlights fitted to my car, I had booked it in last Saturday. I got a really nice MINI Cooper Convertible for the afternoon which was an added bonus. I went to collect my car at 5 o'clock (after the garage rang me about to say it would be ready in about an hour) When I got there the service manager told me that they 'had a problem' and would I go with him, he showed me my car, and the spots were fitted (and they look great I think!) but told me that they could not code them to my car, and the computer required to do so had crashed in the process, which had resulted in the software needing to be reloaded, so it was not going to be possible to code them in. As a result of my work shifts and them being fully booked on Saturday and being closed over the Easter weekend I am not going to be able to get them coded in until Tuesday now. ![]() So I have been told that I need to ring on Saturday to check if their computer is working and then if its ok, get them done on Tuesday. The final thing is that one light wobbles really badly when the engine is running (my car is a diesel if that makes any difference) but the other one is fine and hardly wobbles at all, also the one which does not wobble is very loose and can be moved around with the slightest of force, while the other remains fixed in what I assume is in the proper place. I rang the dealership straight away when I got home to report these issues and they said that they would get them looked at when I returned for the coding. Basically I feel that paying £250 for this is maybe a bit too steep (they originally wanted about £280) Would it be reasonable to expect the dealer to knock of anymore money from the total bill, given that I organised my day off around getting them fitted today, and the cost of fuel for this second visit, and the general inconvenience / disappointment of it all. Any ideas what price I should try and go for? I will get my Dad to ring as he is much better at this kind of thing than me I'm at home from Uni over the Easter break and I have been working full time @ Tesco so that I can pay for these, so want my efforts at work to be worthwhile!! ![]() Apart from the issues, they look great! Here are a few quickly taken pics I did tonight.... ![]() As you can see, main beam on and no light! ![]() ![]() Thanks guys, James. |

![]() Obsessive Car Cleaner OCC | Youve paid alot of money for these spots if you not happy then you need to explain the things your not happy with and get them to sort them! they should without any problem! Personally i would never pay that much for spots tho, get a set of wipacs of Ebay £57 and fit them your self (easy enough with instructions) |

Offline | Pleased to report that they are working now. The don't vibrate either and are now fixed in place, they had not fitted the rubber dampers first time around! Could not manage to get anything else knocked off as they were adamant that the price I was paying left no room for maneuver , due to it being 'at trade price' I'm really pleased with them, they look awesome and seem to be really bright, the main beam is improved now. Just one quick question, I have changed my dipped and main beam bulbs to the Halfords 'super brilliance' 50% brighter bulbs, would it be possible to change the spotlights bulbs and replace with 'brighter' bulbs for even more lighting? James. |

Offline | To not have fitted the dampers is just them trying to cut corners. The BMW fitting instructions clearly state the procedure. I know I have installed them myself. I wouldn't be in a rush to use that dealer again, they are clearly ripping you off. You shouldn't expect to have to inconvenience yourself by going back twice, when paying that sort of cost. |
