Newsletter from Dealer - Any good?

Hi there,

Just wondered what you guys thought about communication from your local dealer? Here at Derek Woodman MINI we like to keep in touch with our customers via a quarterly newsletter MQ (which hopefully some of you have seen!)

We recently revamped it and would like to know your comments if you've seen it?

We've had this going for approx the last 2 years now and use it not as a selling tool (though obviously there are offers in there) but to introduce the team here at Woodmans, local events, accessories available for your MINI etc..

What kind of things would you like to see in there (whether you've seen it or not) what would float your boat as a MINI owner?!

All comments/ constructive criticism welcome!

Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Living 250 miles away from you, I'm not in your customer base so won't have seen your newsletter, I have been up to you a few times though However, I get the odd bit of gumph through from my local dealers though, and the only thing that really rattles me is when the data in them is factually incorrect.

For example, the latest one from Barons was announcing the new Sidewalk. They also invited customers to come and see the 2007 Convertible with new colour options (correct), new interior options (correct) and uprated engines (nope )!

Provided all the info in a newsletter is correct, I'd be happy with it

Jon

The engines in the current Convertible were tweaked from March production onwards to give better economy figures and lower CO2 emissions so I suppose, technically, they were uprated.

It just depends on how this was worded by your dealer, and whether they implied the new R56 engines were now fitted?

I think a lot of dealer newsletters are just done for the sake of doing one, but a well thought out one that actually tells us about new products or those ever so rare special offers are always welcome.

They were definitely implying the R56 engine had been fitted

For a start they said it has 175hp

For what it's worth, I think your MQ magazine is a good idea - it's a nice compact size with a clean design.

It's a pity you guys aren't a bit nearer, then we wouldn't have to deal with our local MINI dealer (who know slightly less than nothing about the product they're selling )

Thanks for that - we did have a redesign as we thought the last one was just too fussy and this (we think) is something you may expect to see from MINI themselves.

We'll make sure you get the next one though (regardless of distance!) as they'll be a special feature on the record attempt!

I had to ask my dealer to stop sending me things as each and every thing I received was very obviously trying to make me spend money with them, rather than being of any interest to anyone.

So from my point of view - I wouldn't want to receive a copy of a newsletter. I'm sure plenty would though!

A business trying to get their customers to spend money with them?

Whatever next?

All the dealers have to make money (don't jump me I am not defending them) but some make it so blatant.

I would welcome an informative, non pushy newsletter, must say the support from my local dealerships are at best patchy, one good one three poor, so it will be interesting to see what if anything I get from the local dealers.
