Have you ever leased a Car?

I'm toying with the idea of selling my car and getting a lease vehicle, has anybody ever leased one before?
It seems the maximum allowed mileage is 10,000 per annum, I'm looking at either Audi TT Roadster, Nissan 350z, or a BMW Z4.
I'm self employed so I don't know whether I'd be able to claim tax back?

Now I know I'm moving away from the Mini, but I took a test drive of the new one yesterday and didn't like it at all.
Very disappointing.
Mine has done 80,000 miles in 43 Months thats just over 3 and half years old.

Does anyone know where it's best to lease, over 10,000 miles per annum and whether this is the best route for me?

Many thanks

Rams

Who told you that the maximum mileage is 10,000 per annum Rams?

I've supplied loads of cars on various different types of Lease over the years (granted, never to individuals, only companies) and annual mileage allowances of 20 or even 30k are common.

I've just scanned through a handfull of sites (*about 8) and most of them are stipulating 10,000 miles per annum.
I mostly use my car for going back anf forth to individauls houses and or Gym based visits.

10k is the 'default' mileage they use when quoting examples of monthly payments.

I'm sure if you go into it in more detail and get a quote tailored to the car you actually want you'll find a much more suitable package.

Oh dear. Another new MINI test driven and another person moving on to something else

Bear in mind that prices quoted may be subject to VAT. Even if you are VAT registered you are restricted to claiming only 50% of the VAT back. Ensure that you set up a realistic annual mileage and make sure that any penalty charges for exceeding that mileage are reasonable.

Only enter into this sort of agreement if you know it is very likely that you will be seeing it through to the end, otherwise it's going to be very expensive to leave it part way through.

Tigger.

Good points on the seeing the contract through

but if you get a maintained car you can claim all the vat on the maintenance element of the lease payment... and then 50% of the vat on the lease.

The big advantage is theres no risk of massive depreciation leaving you in a negative equity situation, and it frees up and cash you have in your car for other uses...

Looked into this a couple of years ago and was going to do it with BMW for a 3.0 Z4, the mileage was not an issue for over 10,000, 10,000 miiles just gives you a good idea of average cost. The only things I would have had to pay were consumables, managed to get all the servicing thrown in for free.
However as you know Rams, my circumstances changed and my car clocks up less mileage now (only used on weekends) so is just a fun toy now.

Oh you still get the massive depreciation with leasing, just spread out and for some people more easy to manage
