Mot Failure Due To Halo Sidelights

Took my 2003 MCS in for its MOT test this morning, everything looked fine until the tester told me the car had failed.
The reason he gave was that my sidelights should show WHITE not BLUE!
I agreed that the Halo's which i bought from Mikeatnewministufff had a slight blue tint but they are the same colour as my Xenons, but he wouldn't have it so i had to take my car home remove the front bumper change the Halo's back to standard sidelights refit bumper then return for a re test.
HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS PROBLEM??

Cheers Keith

Ive got halo's but i havent had no problem with them police wise, im sure if they failed the mot then they will be illegal and would attract police attention and i havent heard of this from anyone!

think ill have a drive to a MOT test center and ask them to check before an MOT!

The Halos sold by Mikey are 'E' marked, which i thought makes them road legal?

The only way they aren't legal is when used in conjunction with LED indicator bulbs.

As far as im aware they are "E" marked, so saying that he has no valid reason to fail them, if i was you id be going back to the MOT center and asking for a refund on the re-test!

I have just spoken to the manufacturers
They have faxed me the approval document for this product & I can send it to you
I also have the lighting regulations which only state a red light must no be shown at the front

Mikey, you cannot show a blue light either as they are reserved for emergency vehicles only........depends on how blue the tester reckons it is!

That's bizarre! Just returned from my local MOT station with exactly the same problem, bloke even showed me the page in their book of 'rules' with a sentence regarding the 'showing white light only' sentence.

Could you send me a copy of the approval document Mikey, I'll give it a try with MOT man

Cheers

John

Not so... PNLD FAQ Alphabetical List -

Provided they do not flash or distract other motorists, blue lights on the front of cars are legal provided they can't be seen from the rear.

It is a slight hint of blue - no more than the factory xenons give - so will they fail & less blue than the blue flash you get from xenons if the car coming towards you goes over a bump.
If anyone wants a copy let me have your address or fax number

Hello Keith,

Got mine done at Autotest, Ruxley Lane, Ewell.

Over the years I've taken all my car's there (even quite a few of our company vehicles as well) & have got to know the tester (same guy) fairly well. He is a nice bloke but was giving it the old 'more than my job's worth to pass it' etc. etc. I'll give it a try with the approval document from Mikey , but to be honest I don't hold out much hope.

May have to go back to origional side lights

John
