Question Canadians - no window sticker?

I'm due to pickup my Cooper tomorrow and was told by my dealer that Canadian cars don't come in with a window sticker listing the specs and options on the car. Can any Canadian owners confirm this?

In the states the window sticker is federally required and is known as a "Monroney sticker".

The MOnroney label shows the base price of that model, including all standard equipment; manufacturer-installed options and their retail prices; transportation or freight charges (also known as destination or delivery charges); and the total manufacturer's suggested retail price. Details about the average fuel economy for the vehicle are required on all cars and light trucks; this information is usually included on the Monroney label, but will sometimes be found on a separate sticker, the EPA [Environmental Protection Agency] Fuel Economy Label. The Monroney label may not be removed by anyone other than the purchaser.

The legislation requiring the sticker is commonly known as the Monroney Law, named after its sponsor in Congress, Almer Stillwell "Mike" Monroney (1902-1980.

I don't believe that such a law exists in Canada and as such there isn't usually a window sticker.

No sticker there when I picked up mine. There are some things in the car before they get PDI'd (from memory of seeing them on the back lot when I took my test drive back in April) but they weren't detailed with all the options or anything. They obviously would have meant much more to a dealer than to your average joe.

The last two cars I bought... don't recall stickers there either.

Hmmm. I like the Monroney sticker because it lists out everything on the car, so you know exactly what you're buying. HarryIndiBlue, you ought to campaign for a similar informational sheet for Canadian car purchasers.

Similarily, they don't have to advertise freight, PDI and other costs in the MSRP of the vehicle and it is tough to find out the invoice cost too. Saturn does include the freight and PDI costs, which is confusing as most would assume that you'd still have to add them (and when you actually sign the papers, they still have to break them out). Thus, the advice "don't pay the extra PDI, it is included in the MSRP" also doesn't apply to Canada.

As for campaigning for window stickers, there are more important things I would campaign for if I had time, like people not being allowed to buy bigger vehicles than they need and polluting the world with them, not creating artificial economies with outdated government subsidies, not trying to force other countries to change their governments or put missiles in the sky but oops, this isn't the off topic and banter forum, is it???

Just an opinion of course (from a like-minded individual), but I'd say those issues should go in the 'Faults and Fixes' forum! LOL

Perhaps we need a new "World Faults and Fixes" forum

Thumbs up

My dealership in the USA actually removed the 'Monroney sticker' from the car when I picked it up. Of course the salesman knew that I was going to be driving the car for 6-8 hours. I did get a pamplet complete with the VIN# and all of the information normally found on the sticker. I wonder if the dealership actually broke a law or not.

Sold the Cooper. Now driving the Traveller. I mean Clubman.

I'm amused an American got there first - thanks Pamlico

As this is the first time I've bought a car in Canada, I was sceptical when the dealer told me there was no window sticker. I was looking forward to some new cube furniture

MINI Victoria has window stickers on the cars in their lot and showroom with all those details on them. Not sure why other dealers don't have them
