Offline | Not at those rip-off prices! My sister has a Recaro Start (not ISOFIX) for her little baby (9mths+). It cost £175 and lasts until the menace is 11 years old. Most of the competition such as Britax costs similar but only fits the child until 6 years old. The extra outlay of the Start is therefore worth it for another 5 years of use. The quality of some of the seats is questionable. Most of them just seem to be constructed from a foam moulding and with token other parts. After seeing the Start in use, it's quality, this is the avenue that I'm taking when Amelia is 9mths. Offline | Well go to Halfords and try it! My sister drives a Corsa so I can't say for definite that the Recaro will fit. But I'm pretty sure that the Recaro is narrower than other child seats. Offline | I'm going to wait a bit. As of 9/01/02 (yesterday) ALL cars sold stateside are required to have LATCH (Isofix. Why do Americans always feel the need to change the names of things?!? ) and ALL carseats MANUFACTURED after 9/01/02 and sold here must be LATCH compatible. I am still trying to figure out, "are all LATCH carseats required to fit all new cars?" Figure (hope?) this whole LATCH implementation thing will probably not allow too much price gouging. It seems that BMW is trying to keep a strong hold of that MINI w/ kids demographic ![]() |

Offline | I bit the bullet and bought the £155 baby seat for my 2 year old. None of the ISOFIX stuff was on sale at the time and my existing seat didn't fit the 'bucket' seats. Looked into getting the front air bags disabled, but both the front and side bags need to be taken away. I'll have to go through it all again soon with baby No2 on the way. Just as long as I don't have to trade in my Mini for something grown up and sensible !! |

| Sorry to cut across, but in the past week or so I've found out I'm gonna be a dad (first time). Woo hoo! So after the panic set in, and I reconsidered my trade-up to an S! I thought of child-seats d(again, for the first time ever!). Sorry to sound ignorant about such matters, but why not put the seat in the back of the MINI (rather than rear-facing front passenger seat)??? What is ISOFIX? I quite like the sound of a seat that can be used for a good few years, especially when my Mrs showed me round the kiddies dept of M&S the other day... I didn't realise that when the little outfit said "to fit ages 1 month", price £14, that the outfit, lasted said 1 month. Eeek!!! Can't you just wrap kids in kitchen-roll till they're old enough to wear my cast-off Levi's? DBK. |

Offline | I've been a Dad for 14 months now. We used a rear facing seat until he was 9 months old. The child seat faces the rear of the car (either front or back seat) because the little one hasn't got strong enough neck muscles to support itself in the event of an accident. ISOFIX is a great system (my Lad now has one of these in the Mini). The seat attaches firmly to the car without using seatbelts. They may cost more that normal child seats but I think worth every penny as they are held figid in the car and you cannot fit them incorrectly. As for the cost. Having kids is a massive cost. You would not believe how much until you have them. But then again worth every penny. EB S - build Week29,delivery September, Chilli, Auto A/C, CD Auto, Heated W/M, ISOFIX |
