Offline | I went in to order a 26 week build Cooper D on saturday but wanted to change to an August build. The salesman and his colleagues on the shop floor knew nothing about the changes (and looked genuinely shocked), however when the business manger came out to discuss finance he claimed that they had been told 2 days before (saying "you normally know before we do"). However there had been a number of leaks prior to this including this one on the 16th of May. BusinessCar - EXCLUSIVE: Mini next in line for BMW eco-tech My experience of MINI dealers is that they genuinely never know what is going on. Sometimes they admit this, but usually they just confabulate because their ignorance is significantly exceded by their arrogance (sorry if this offends people who work or have worked for MINI). Equally I've been told complete rubbish by MINI head office customer service in the past. Buying a car is no different to buying any other consumer item eg a computer. PC world are hardly going to admit that your £1500 computer has last years chip, graphics card and operating system in it. These anouncements are timed appropriately to affect the least number of cars, many ordered cars are no longer speccable or moveable (ie June builds) The majority of punters don't know and some won't care. The MINI2 community is a double edged sword for MINI and the fact that many informed interested people will be attempting to delay their July build MINI's may cause a degree of angst (Most June builds will not be changeable) the majority of MINI customers who don't read these forums will remain blissfully unaware ![]() |

Offline | ![]() Made me smile, thx, maybe I should start a ignorance vs arrogance thread ![]() Does explain why there is 'no production' in the dealers system during July & why stealers are saying "their July build slots have all been allocated" so the earliest I could have got a brand new car wud b August ... Maybe The truth hurts ... but i'd rather know & make an informed decision than find out later & have to go 'round to 'sort it out' ![]() ![]() Agree most ppl wont know but when they find out later probably will care .... Will wait & see what the effect on future resale value is vs any recall / quality issues (technology's been around for a year on bmw's but how well (cost effectively) it'll be transferred to MINI remains to be seen IMO |

| Life after MINI | My impression is that this site (or for that matter, any car forum) are bad places to be if you intend to be happy with what you currently own. Knowledge often leads to discontentment. As for going from a Cooper to a Dooper after a year - my advice would be to do it sooner rather than later. The Cooper is losing money fast, and the Dooper is likely to depreciate slower than just about any other R56 model. Get out of the Cooper before the depreciation gap is too much to handle. I got out of my R56 Cooper after 5 months, and lost about £2.5k on it in that time. Expensive lesson no doubt, but I'm sure I'd have been hosed if I'd waited 12 months ......... and my R53 JCW GP is fantastic and appears to be losing money at a slower rate because of rarity value and outright performance.Go get a Dooper and don't feel guilty about doing it. ![]() |

Offline | Gear upshift light I had one of those "upshift" lights in my 1990 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 way back when. It was somewhat adaptive IIRC, but it was also damn annoying to see it pop up continuously. I tuned it out after a while... ![]() www.MINICalgary.com |

Offline | Seems this thread is mostly European MINI owners. However, I'm curious if these changes, including the USB connection, will be making it to the United States as well. I know an Aussie mentioned they would not be making it there (where was this confirmed by the way?), and I'm wondering if that is true regarding Australia, I'm thinking it might be the same for the United States? We don't have anywhere close to the taxes on fuel, CO2, emissions as many Europeans, so I'm wondering if BMW is even going to bother putting it in our cars. Seems like a lot of expensive technology that likely will add more cost to the car than it will ever save at the pump or in taxes. I'm thinking of ordering a 2007 but am now considering waiting. I don't mind the wait so much, but I definitely do NOT want to end up with a pretty much identical 2008 only to find it now costs $500 more than a 2007 would.....especially since the only thing I really care about is the USB connection (the fuel saving technologies really don't matter to me). So, what's the word on United States/North American cars? We gettin this too or not? 97 Mazda MX-5 Miata Last edited by Jerome81 : May 29th, 2007 at 09:04 AM. Reason: rewording |

Offline | There's no details on the North American or Canadian press information website to reflect these changes yet, but I do not know if they will be making it "across the pond" from Oxford or not yet. Our trials and tribulations living in a "bleeding edge" eco house... Oxley Woods Living |

Offline | Hello everybody! I have been reading in this forum for some time but have not written so far. I ordered a CooperD last month, and it is going to be delivered next tuesday. Obviously I felt a bit disappointed when I read that new Minis will be fitted with the stop-start system, the Brake Energy Regeneration etc. In any case I don't think that these gadgets will make any difference in the overall performance and pleasure of driving such a beautiful car. In my country the majority of cars are sold with diesel engines, and the Dooper will be no exception. It's not only that oil is more convenient, but also the greater flexibility and the torque of these machines. Perhaps people in UK are less in favour of diesel. |
