Yes. A garage door/gate opener (presumably made by someone like homelink). Which I have changed my order to include. Cheap at 150! I paid 350 for it in my other car! Also, it paid for itself within the reduction I got on the bluetooth kit!)

It was in the old brochure as 'available dec 06' but they changed their minds and made it US only. Now it is available on cars from week 31 onwards.

My order was an end of July car (For Sept 1 delivery) . It is now start of August wk31 car (Although they say I may not have it for Sept 1 seeing as they have to fit wheels, aerokit, carbon bits, spoiler, steering limiters and KDS it).

Does anyone know how long from date of manufacture to delership? Surely they will get it with time to spare?

..Mad

I imagine it should work with most newer openers. I have one in my house from Craftsman (made by Sears, a national department store chain), and it works just fine. I just had to put it in programming mode in order for it to learn the new "remote". Just check your opener's manual.

does anyone know the details behind how the stop-start technology works? does it comletely kill the engine & require the starter motor to re-fire? i can't imagine this being responsive enough to re-start the engine fast enough

It works with garage doors (and other devices) that use HomeLink: http://homelink.com/. The option is a ridiculous amount of money for what is probably a couple of dollars of manufacturing cost (a tiny mass produced circuit board), but it is nicely integrated into the mirror.

So are all orders with specs that are still changeable (i.e. pre-1200 or whatever the status is) now going to be of this updated type of MINI?

Also, anyone know whether the stop/start system will be available in the UK or not?

Thanks

If the build date is after week 31, I think it is, then it is the updated type of mini which I am led to believe includes the stop/start system.

"Auto Start-Stop Function: no more idling.

In all manual-transmission models of the new MINI, idling phases will be eliminated virtually entirely in future. The new Auto Start-Stop Function ensures that the engine switches off automatically when the vehicle stops at a junction, for example, as soon as the gear lever is moved into neutral position and the driver removes his foot from the clutch. To restart the engine, the driver simply activates the clutch. The engine is then automatically restarted without any delay."

Yes the UK does get the stop start feature, I put my order back to get it

These changes put a Cooper S cheaper to run as a company car over 25,000 miles a year than a Golf / A3 2.0 TDI diesel (on my company car scheme anyway)!!! I wasn't considering anything other than a diesel when I choose my new car in a couple of months but the S has just made it to the top of my wish list! Even with a chili pack and £1k options specced!

A3 2.0 TDI tax band 19% with a £20k list price and 46mpg (average from my current A3)
Cooper S tax band 16% with an £18k list price and average of 42mpg (estimated based on other posted averages for current R56 S's plus increase from new technology changes). Very impressed!
