I want to cry ive just returned from my normal friday pre club trip to the chippy to get my dinner and im very sad to say due to my careless driving ive just curbed my nearside alloy


as soon as i heard it, i knew what had happened

it cut through me and i was gutted even before i got out of the car and saw it.

does anyone know a way to solve this without resorting to a new alloy?????

Gutted for you mate. The previous owner of my car managed to kerb 3 of the wheels in the first 5months of the cars life.

Which alloys do you have, and would it be possible to post a pic of the kerbing?

If its not that bad, then a refurb would probably return the wheel to 'as new' condition. I had three of my wheels refurb'd at my MINI dealer's bodyshop for £40 a wheel.

The result was pretty good considering mine are polished, if they had been the normal finish version of the R99's (i.e silver finish on the alloys like the 17" Bullets) I dont think I would ever have known they were orginally damaged. But because of the paint used to create the polished effect a 100% match was not possible, one thing is for sure though is that they look 10 times better than they did when they were kerbed.

Like I say though if you have a normal finish on your wheel I reckon they should be able to sort it for you without pretty much no evidence of it ever have being kerbed If your dealership cant do it, ask them for the name of the company who they get to repair alloys before their cars go onto the forecourt.....

You may have some luck with a local firm, I dont know of any in Scotland, but I'm sure someone else on here will do. I have heard good things about a firm called laptab which is based in Birmingham, maybe as a last resort you could have the wheel shipped to them for the repair.

Both offside wheels on my car have been lightly kurbed by the previous owner...its horrible isnt it!

I feel for you. I did the same on mine when it was only a month old. I actually bought a new wheel from the dealer and now have the kerbed one as a spare. If I ever kerb another one, I will then get the original repaired. Touch wood - 11 months after and still got four tidy wheels!

Mind you, after doing that first one, I am now ultra careful.

I managed to kerb mine a while back and took a chunk out of the wheel in the process. I got in touch with Chips Away who sent a mobile guy out to quote for a repair. He quoted me £50 and did it there and then. Couldn't tell it had been repaired at all.

for some reason the R50-53 is much easier to curb than the R56

awww, no need to cry! it's fixable! have a good search around before you resort to the dealer, cos they are very good at offering high prices for little jobs!

There is a japanese import car sales place near where I live and they do touch ups and fixes! they are really good, but they are in Warrington, near Manchester. Bit too far out for you maybe!?

I managed to kurb all four alloys but got them all filled before I traded her back to the dealer! as good as new!!

dont worry! its bound to happen again! its just one of those things!

it all accumulated over time! mine was an 05 and i think it was quite easy to knock the curb! but that must have just been me!

I feel for you. I did the same with Lorinser Speedys, they were gorgeous too. Did get them fixed at a local fe-furb place. I did mine avoiding a late lane changing bus and scraped my offside wheels (both) on the mid road bollard kerbs. I was pig sick.

They are fixable though. I'm sure that you will get the wheel fixed soon. Though.

40 quid to have it fixed doesnt seem too bad its better than going and buying a new wheel then trying to get the tyre moved over

ive got bullet wheels with normal silver finish will post a pic when i get home from work

ive been too afraid to go and wash the car all weekend for fear of damaging the wheel further by using a wheel cleaner as i heard that cleaners are safe on a good wheel but if you use a wheel cleaner on a wheel that has been scuffed or kirbed then the solution get in behind the finish / laquer and causes the wheel to bubble and flake

Yeh dont use wheel cleaner on the rim until you get it repaired. However I washed my wheels with normal car shampoo frequently before they were refurb'd and they were fine

(it took me a while to decide if I should leave the wheels alone or get them fixed, the damage wasn't too bad but I knew it was there and it bugged me!)

I would say that given you have Bullets which have a 'standard' alloy finish the repair would be undectiable to anyone who previously did not know the wheel had been scraped and even you yourself would have difficulty finding any evidence of a repair
