BP Ultimate 102 - Really as good as they say?

I read in the newspaper that BP have brought out a 102 octane petrol, below is a quote from their website:

" In our independent tests in a range of cars, BP Ultimate 102 gave typical power benefits of between 4 and 7.5 per cent above 97 octane BP Ultimate Unleaded when the ignition was remapped. On a high performance, turbo charged vehicle, with boost pressure increased, the power benefits seen included an increase in maximum power of 37 bhp (8.6%), and as much as 60 bhp (16%) at some points in the engine speed range."

60 BHP is quite a claim for a petrol which can be used on the roads, has anyone used this and noticed a big difference?

If you read the rest of the website, it says that you can only really get any benefit if your car is tuned to use the 102 octane stuff. I think as well, you only get the 60bhp if you also have a turbo. Shame, although at 2.50 a litre, I don't think many could afford it. I guess it could be pretty wicked if you could get a remap for it.

would b gud for a blast down the strip at Santa Pod MINI Showdown but xpensive for road use

filled r56 cooper with Ultimate 97 today after running as low as poss on the Morrisons cheapo stuff the stealer put in - HUGE IMPROVEMENT - better throttle response, acceleration, QUIETER running

only 97,4 per ltre 3p more that regular BP unleaded

definatly keeping away from 'standard' supermarket fuel for a bit

try Vpower or tesco super next if i can find it for less than 104p/l

Sounds good - do you think the same octane rating could be achieved by adding octane boosting fluid to 97RON petrol?

btw I pay 108.9 for BP ultimate! I'm being raped on a weekly basis!

The Mini ecu will like it, ours went from 24 deg timing to 31 deg at 6800, so more horsepower but at a price.

This was a 50-50 mix of 114 octane and Tescos 99.

I've put Shell V Power 100 octane in the GP, both in Germany and Italy.
And yes the difference is noticable.

Would love to get hold of BP 102, although seeing as I'm lucky to get 26 mpg out of the car, the price would be a bit restrictive!

A Tesco is being built in my town, I really hope that the 99RON is a similar price to what you pay!

Been Using V Power in my LS430 for a couple of weeks now and the difference is remarkable! Also fuel economy has gone from 22mpg to 26mpg which makes me smile!
