Offline | OK /me puts legal head on It is an offence to park facing against the flow of oncoming traffic on ANY public highway. It is an offence to reverse from a minor onto a major thoroughfair. Including your own driveway. It is an offence to travel using only independant sidelights on any public highway where the speed limit is greater than 30 MPH. Does anybody take any notice of these? NO and it really winds me up ![]() Good girls are just bad girls who haven't been caught yet. ![]() |

Offline | probably only guilty of the second offense above - regularly have to back out from our drive onto the street. But forwards or backwards there's thousands of us driving across pavements on a daily basis to access our properties!! - let's be careful out there! |

Offline | I do the second one from my driveway as well but I definitely don't do the other one that some people ignore, which is parking half on / off the pavement! This really annoys me as it hinders wheelchairs, pushchairs etc. and damages the paths eventually. |

Offline | To Clarify I have just been on the web to get the relevant section from the Highway Code. There are many interesting facts that most of us either never knew or have at best forgotten. Alan |

222: You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space. Laws CUR reg 101 & RVLR reg 24 223: All vehicles MUST display parking lights when parked on a road or a lay-by on a road with a speed limit greater than 30 mph. Law RVLR reg 24 224: Cars, goods vehicles not exceeding 1525kg unladen, invalid carriages and motorcycles may be parked without lights on a road (or lay-by) with a speed limit of 30 mph or less if they are

Offline | As far as I can find out there is NO UK law on parking on the wrong side of the road unless at night without lights I wish some of the other rules were really enforced Parking near junctions, on the pavement, on crossings, across access routes, parking with headlights on etc |

Offline | Its ok in the day time as you can see the vehicles, but at night time parking against the trafic is not ok as the cars don't have reflectors on the front and cannot be seen easily! depending on the position could also be considered as "leaving a vehicle in a dangerous position" there is also an offence of "causing an unnecessary obstruction" which we can use for all manner of things! most parking fines are £30 except a small few which are £60 and 3 points!!! ![]() 2002 COOPER / 2003 ONE D / 2003 COOPER S |

Offline | In my youth which admittedly was a summer or two ago I remember that mostgerman cars if you turn the indicator on without the ignition on the parking lights for that side came on. Not many manuals mention this because in the UK at the time you must have all four parking lights on. Pause while I run out to the garage. Yep the Mini is the same but it does describe this saying where permitted by the law in that country. So anyone care to say for sure that you must still use all four parking lights in the UK? ![]() Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs |
