Just seen you on the BBC news, with your MINI. Nice one, although, I did think I had switched onto Dom Joly on Trigger Happy TV for a moment

Mini Moo.....I saw you on the telly!!

Well done on raising this issue as it would seem you are not the only one to have the same problem!!!

I wish you luck with getting it all sorted out once and for all!

We're pretty lucky here in the States. The only real camera issues we have are "Red Light Cameras" that will take a photo of someone running a red light. The automatically activate when the traffic light a particualr camera is covering, turns red, and a sensor in the road detects some moron going through. Bright flash, and you've been busted.

Only defense is that you weren't the driver, but the photo usually shows the face. If you've got heavily tinted (probably illegal) windows and the driver can't be seen, you have no argument.

Or if you had to move out the way for an emergency services vehicle?

I think people in UK have had problems with those cameras when they moved over the line for an ambulance

No problems with emergency vehicles. At intersections (the only place with the cameras) an emergency vehicle will use the opposing lane to go around stopped traffic if necessary. If you are directed to drive through the intersection by emergency personnel, you're covered.

We don't have the CCTV thing like you lot suffer under.

Thanks all,

Some rather disturbing new evidence came to light today.

See here: Image foreshortening

I suspect Lambeth's CCTV cars days may well be numbered. . .

That is just outrageous!

Seems they will do anything to make a few extra pounds out of the motorist yet again but that is stooping very low indeed!

Good luck with it all!!

I doubt they'll ever admit to any wrong-doing as it will open the door to every person ever caught speeding / not giving way etc asking for their money back and any points given to be removed

Reminds me of a near-clamping I had in Lambeth/Southwark a few years back. I'd got a parcel to pickup from Royal Mail/Parcel Farce, so I drive over there on a Saturday morning. There were some Pay and Display bays right opposite the depot, so knowing that these guys are maniacs with the clamps, I get one of the many empty bays, pump coins in the meter for 15mins worth of time, and walk right across the road to get my parcel.

I can see MINI whilst they're hunting around the warehouse for my parcel. And not more than 3 minutes later, a Lambeth flatbed clamping-lifting van pulls up beside MINI, and the guy gets out, then starts putting the stabilisers in preparation to use the crane on the flatbed!

I run straight over from where I'm waiting for my parcel, point him at the meter he has not looked at, and tell the guy to get lost... and he does.

It was scamtastically un-beeee-lievable.

Very best of luck to you in your run-in with them.

Well, it's been a long time coming but I had my hearing at PaTAS last Saturday and the adjudicator decided that no contravention had occurred, so I WON!

I have had, quite literally hundreds of people contact me because of this and it's not surprising really because, it turns out that Lambeth (once they realised what a cash cow they had on their hands) issued a staggering 6,286 tickets in just 128 days AT JUST THIS ONE LOCATION!! That's a whopping £628,600 in fines!

Additionally, the adjudicator who did my hearing also ruled that the junction was flawed so I'm now starting work on getting Lambeth to hand back any fines that they collected at this location. . .

Anyway, just thought I'd let you know the outcome and thanks to you all for your support.

Cheers,

MM

Well Done there! I remember reading this thread back at the time and thought how unfair it all was. I do think you handled yourself very well in the situation and stuck by your guns. This is citizens standing up for themselves and glad to see you are one of many to come to get their wrongs righted!

Well done MM!!
Very typical these days of innocent motorists falling to dodgy councils greedy for an easy £ to boost their coffers.
Hope you get as much cash given back to those affected and the council gets a slap on the wrist ( although I doubt it ).
Well done again.

See if they'll pay the interest you've also lost out on with that £100 not being in your bank account. It may not be much, but hey, stick it to 'em, they deserve it!

No, I didn't pay them the £100 in the first place - if you do pay a PCN you then have virtually 0% chance of being able to appeal - but I'm going to stick them for the travelling expenses for the 400 mile round trip that I had to make to attend the hearing!
