Offline | Give us a wave Just a thought, but many of us seem to moan about the fact that not many people seem to wave at each other when driving. I in the past have been the proud owner of an MGB Midget and a classic Beetle, and everyone driving that type of car waves to each other, almost without exception. So come on MINI 2ers lets get waving. Lets try and get MINI owners around the whole world waving to each other. I propose that: If someone waves back after you wave, give them a mention on here. If someone doesn't wave back, shame them on here. Maybe you could post part of their number plate (maybe the last 3 letters) so they know who they are. So, come on people lets get waving. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Offline | There's several threads on waving/flashing around on MINI2 . I've pretty much given up on it now in my R56. Apart from the two organised runs I've been on (Lancs Lanes in Jan and Woodmans Guinness Record Breakers in March) I've NEVER had anyone flash or wave at me first! And I probably come across a dozen or so MINIs every day on my 26 mile round trip between Blackpool and Preston. I asked a pal at work who's got an MG F and he says that F and TF owners rarely, if ever, flash each other either! Another friend with a 'new shape' Beetle says it's the same with her car. However as regards newish and relatively mainstream cars I've heard that Smart owners are a pretty friendly bunch to each other when out and about. Offline | Must admit people flashed me in their Smarts when I had a Smart Roadster. I did always wonder if they were telling me something had falling off though. Flash to blank ratio over here is very low too, but I still keep trying. I'll wear them down and get them to join in one day, I will........ Offline | I always flash and/or wave at other MINIs (and minis). Whether I get a response depends very much on where I am. In more rural areas most people seem to wave back but in larger towns / cities the response rate is not so good . In particular, Cheltenham MINI owners never respond .It doesn't stop me waving, though ![]() |

Offline | Well done Tony & come on Cheltenham owners get waving. It doesn't matter if you don't know the person driving, just wave as we're all part of an exclusive club. ![]() ![]() It's finally here |

Offline | Ive only had my mini a month. I found that it works only with Red Minis like mine. I too commute from Blackpool to Preston and it dosent happen often, I occasionally nod and people nod back. |

Offline | I was surprised that so few acknowledge, then again - there are quite a few on the road these days so I suppose the 'special' isn't there for some. I am surprised that some on here don't let on though - no names mentioned ![]() ![]() "He fell for her like his heart was a mob informant, and she was the East River." |

Offline | Same here. Owners of red 'uns often give me a flash, particularly ones with the red roof like mine. Best one was from an extremely tasty young lady who gave me a nice smile too. Cheered up an old man no end..... A smell of petroleum prevails throughout. |

Offline | Someone waved to me the other day when I was driving to work, I was so surprised (as no-one has ever waved to me before, not even when I waved to them first) that I didn't have time to wave back. I think it is nice but you see so many minis on the road that I'd be waving constantly LOL! |

Offline | I usually only flash a similar coloured Mini now, which is very rare. "Welcome back my friends to the show that never ends, we're so glad you could attend, come inside come inside. " |

Offline | Around where I am the MINI is now so common it is almost rude not to have one! So many of the former 4x4 owners are swapping them in for our cool car. However that means that if everyone flashed or waved it would almost cause chaos. Plus you do get a lot of folk who are unaware of the scene behind the car. So, as a general rule and apart from when I'm on a run, I now only flash or wave near identical cars to mine ie. chili red/white roof. I'm afraid though .... I don't salute R56s! Sorry - it just doesn't feel right ...... yet. ![]() |

Offline | On Friday night I went on a mini adventure to Southport, and after reading this thread I thought I would flash my lights at other Minis. I did it twice and no reply. I felt a right berk so stopped doing it. ![]() |

Offline | I can count the number of times I've been waved at unprompted on one hand. Slightly better success rate when I initiate the wave, more often than not I'm given a stony stare and feel like a complete nob! |

Offline | I keep waving regardless. Here In Ohio lately everyone seems to be waving. The other day a whole family in a Cooper almost jumped out of the car waving at my wife and me. This was my first "gang" wave. I think it's great. ![]() |

Offline | Lol i can just picture that. I find that you have to be the one to wave first. No one else bothers, But if you do wave i find that the response ratio is quite high, probably 8 out of 10. If they see you early enough that is. I only ever bother to flash/wave nowadays if the car is quite modified, then you know they are a car enthusiast and are likely to know about the waving thing. Other people my age i will nod to and i find these are the people who acknowledge you more. |
