I do a lot of city driving and I get about 24mpg. On the freeway it averages around 25-27.

Question @ 33 mpg

I have @ 4000 miles of mixed town and country driving on my '07 MCS, with very little time spent at stoplights. According to the computer readout (I've not tracked it myself) I'm averaging @ 33 mpg. I use the sport button @ 50% of the time, but when cruising I tend to keep the engine below 3000 rpm's

This is NOT much different than what it was when "new."

Either (1) my computer is grossly optimistic, (2) your MCS is very different from mine or (3) your driving habits are very different

Welcome to MINI2
1) it's entirely possible, but if you're recording your mpg the "old fashioned way", i.e. gallons in the tank vs. miles driven, and it's coming out to the same number, you're doing fantastic, 2) I've had a Cooper, an S, and now an S with JCW and have never gotten better than 24 mpg, 3) yes, I drive like I stole the damn thing. Always have, always will

I average around 30-31mpg on my cooper S using just normal super unleaded doing town driving and sitting in ques. I tried V power, but that didnt make too much difference for me.

ID:	134523Just gone through the 200 mile barrier today and have noticed that the mpg has gone up to about 29, so I'm feeling a lot better. Once I've used this tankful I'm going to use v power and see how that goes.

Don't think we can't see that Penguin in the cubby hole.

I love the Sidewalk by the way.

Just posted this on South Coast New MINI Club: News :

Just returned from 2 weeks in France/Switzerland (le Havre>Paris>Dijon>Geneva>Nice>Lyon>le Havre; no holiday, working most of the time!). Nearly all gentle autoroute (130km/h on cruise), with little town work, and have averaged 38.44 mpg with a best tank of 414 miles (although it did take 50.01 litres to fill!) I used 98 from the French stations in my R56 MCS.

That Lyon to le Havre leg, with only one stop for refreshment, was just under 4 hours; a very impressive rate of around 12.5 litres per hour!

3 weeks ago I got my 2007 manual Cooper S, and have just finished driving it London to Portugal in 3 stages taking a week. Computer gave average consumption at just under 40mpg for first 1000 miles, but for the last 1,500 gave closer to 34mpg. Most distance covered was done on motorways at 85mph (about 3.5k rpm) without too much acceleration. This consumption seems much lower than the 54mpg quoted by BMW.

Fuel gripe aside its an awesome car. v glad I upgraded the sound system.
