Fuel consumption

Picked up an MCS Sidewalk yesterday, and have been driving it gently for the 1st 100 miles but fuel consumption is down to around 20-25 mpg. Is this normal?

100 miles is isn't a good gauge of consumption. I'd expect around 28mpg or so though, not much more, depending on how and where you drive.

I think the best I've had out of mine was 23.5mpg and I had it for a year now.

Depends how you drive I guess. I would think you'd be hard pressed to get 30mpg in most situations though. (Waits to be proven wrong by loads of 30+ mpg getters!).

Just got a call from the dealer who says that for about the first 500 miles or so it's normal. As the engine loosens up the consumption will get better so I'll keep you posted.

I've had 3 MINIs so far and none have gotten better than 24 mpg. If I wanted to get 30 I'd have to get out and push the damn car for 6 miles

That's bad. Do you do a lot of city driving or just like gunning it?
I'm sure I read somewhere once that for the first few hundred miles that the engine is tuned to run richer, anyone else heard of that.

You might find that once the engine is broken in (about 500-1000 miles), the engine will loosen up and your mileage will go up. Also noticeable might be an increase in torque and power.

Currently showing 30.7mpg but thats only because I've been driving like a jessie, its nearly service time and don't want to push it too hard with old oil! normally get around 27mpg
