That is good! My friend's 2005 S gets shocking consumption...

I recently drove my very late supercharged S from Cornwall to Milton Keynes, taking it very easy, but traveling at the legal limit (between 50 and 70mph as appropriate); it returned 40.3 mpg! When I filled up in Milton Keynes the OBC showed a tank range of 449 miles!

I even have the photos to prove it!

Normally it's around 33 mpg average

Just avoid getting caught in slow town traffic; then it's shockingly bad!

Tigger.

Just drove my first Cooper S. Now I have to read about it to find out exactly what it was. It was a 2002 Cooper S. Could clearly feel the additional power. If it was a color combo that knocked me out I may have given it more thought. I clearly feel I would be in greater danger of getting speeding tickets in an S. Oh yes and loved the exhaust tone also. So I will keep an eye out for just the right S I guess, in the mean time I'll continue to bond with my Cooper.

Does you MC have 5 speed or auto? Spot suspension plus?
You can do quite a bit with a Cooper - but the S gives you more power without thinking about which gear you are in.

I realized this weekend, I always keep the S one gear lower when the A/C is on.

My Coop is a 5 speed. Funny you should mention it, I've had the A/C on twice and it felt like it sucked about 25 hp. I was wondering if it was just me. Don't use the A/C unless my wife is with me.

Have to admit, in my MC, I've never noticed any real difference with the a/c on or off. So I drive with it on almost all the time.........

This is a question that's vexing me, too. My family is now on its third MCS, this one a convertible. We previously had two 2004 MCS, one loaded, one stripped.

In the market for a third car now (my wife always takes the MCSC, it was a Christmas gift for her, I've only driven it a few times), and I'm trying to decide between new or used and Cooper or Cooper S.

Ah. I guess it's time to take a lot of test drives...!

I'm keeping my Cooper and gonna be happy with it. Won't be too difficult, I do love the car. Took an hour drive to the closest Mini dealer and did some number crunching. I can't afford to go after a new S so unless I find just the right one used I'm standing pat. A special order S was just delivered to the dealer for someone and we were told it was $41,000.00. Yikes!

Well,

The 2002 would be the supercharger one. Changed in 2007 model year. New one probably gets better mpg, but I really like the SC.

I drive a 2004 MCS. I'm keeping it, but if I were to buy new today:
Cooper (not s) soft-top. Get to keep the old bodystyle that way (I was at the dealer yesterday, the new ones are fine, but I like the first-gen better). I've relocated since the S purchase and we drive much less now. Requirements would be manual gearbox and sport suspension + (the extra stifness is wonderful, main thing I noticed between cooper and S on original test drive 4 years ago).

On 33mpg, that is definetly an imperial gallon. I get much closer to 25 to the u.s. gallon, but that is nearly all town driving, and when I do get a bit of open road, I tend to throw it around a bit.
