Offline | Cooper to Cooper S I love my new to me 2004 Cooper. It is a blast but the thought of another 50 hp has grabbed me. For those who have owned the Cooper and the Cooper S, what words or thoughts do you have on this? |

Offline | Do it. But drive the S first, it does "feel" different, and there are those who prefer the Cooper's characteristics. I enjoy them both, but would chose the S any day. ![]() There aint no party like my nana's tea party |

Offline | I've got a Cooper (with JCW Sound Kit) and absolutely love it. I find the drive very fun. I've driven a Cooper S and I have to say it's also very fun. I won't say it's more fun, but it has the extra power, which just makes it great. ![]() |

![]() LOONEY!! | I'm hankering after a Cooper S. I love my Cooper to bits, but need MORE POWER!!!!!! Unfortunately the funds are a bit tight at the mo....will be looking at buying one in the next year tho. The extra insurance is negligable, so I just need to save up for the car!! I NEED A BETTER JOB!!! ![]() ALTHOUGH SHE NEEDS A BIT OF GUIDANCE, LESLEY WILL BE MY BIATCH FOR NOW...! ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Three weeks ago I sold my Cooper and bought a S Works - very different in character! Obviously the S is very easy to drive quickly because of the extra power, which is more of an effort in the Cooper.. however the Cooper was (well, is!) very rewarding when driven swiftly. Driven smoothly and precisely over a B road or similar then a Cooper is a hell of a lot more fun than a lot of people give it credit for, but the Cooper S is just something else - the power delivery and noise are grin inducing alone, nevermind the handling...! ![]() |

Offline | I was afraid of this. Not one reply saying "stick with the Cooper " I knew it was a long shot. I really want the S but I've already gotten attached to my Blue Cooper and I can't convince my wife to dump the SUV. Surely someone can say they have had both and like the Cooper over the S. Anybody, anyone/ |

| MINI2 Regular | we drove all (One, Cooper and S) before opting for the Cooper - of course the S was a hoot to drive, however so was the Cooper - we had a budget to keep to and opted for the extras on a Cooper - dont regret it for a second. Saying this, I'm sure 6 months down the line I'll change my mind ![]() |

Offline | The Cooper is a stunning car, seriously stunning, and I loved my one, however after changing to the S, there is no competition. Looking back, I think the Coopers are cars that are thrashed more, to get the power out of them, whereas I drive my S far more leisurely, and only unleash the squeeling pig (the supercharger) when it's time for a blast. Upgrade! |

Offline | I previously used to own a Mini Cooper. I absolutely loved it to bits. I did a little tuning on it and it was great. However I just felt it lacked the overtaking ability of the S so now i drive a Hartge Cooper S. If you are after speed then it's definately worth getting an S, otherwise keep the Cooper. |

| MINI2 Regular | hmmm....ive been thinking the same thing for a while too......but what keeps me with the coop is the fact that i dont drive it as much. TBH the only time i get to drive it properly is weekends as i take public transport weekdays....so i wouldnt really want to be spending more ££ than i should. |

Offline | I have had similar thoughts about going for an MCS and being very tempted too until I recently had a go in one and have to say that the earth didn't quite move for me (well, not enough to make me run to my local dealers and throw my keys at them!!). Yes it was very quick and loads of fun but also more noisy than my cooper and a harder drive. It's not everyone's cup of tea but for me I love my cooper too much to part with her! Although I am not ruling out that my next MINI will be an S, just not right now ![]() Last edited by Rosamalosa : Jul 4th, 2007 at 05:34 PM. |

Offline | These are very good points. A few reasons why I bought a Cooper over an S were:
All the above points could be argued I guess, but these were the reasons for me. |

Offline | Seb - good reasons too - however my MCS is returning 33mpg - and I drive it quite quickly too! It's a very late supercharged one... so not sure if they made them more fuel effecient? Is the tank bigger on the S too? |

Offline | I had a much loved '04 Cooper from new and thought very long and hard about buying one of the very, very last new R53 Cooper S's (in the UK) about 6 months ago. There is a long thread with lots of helpful advice here: http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-coop...you-think.html After 5 months and 7,500 miles in the S I couldn't be happier and am so glad I made the swap. Offline | By the way, which Cooper S are you thinking of? New Cooper S with turbocharger, or used / old stock Cooper S with supercharger? Tigger. ![]() Unintimated and I'm back!! ![]() For sunshine, fun and Cornish Pasties: New MINI Kernow Cornish Oggy Run 2009! |
