| MINI2 Regular | Government plans to cut VAT on lowest CO2 cars Interesting article on Auto Express. Government plans to cut VAT on lowest CO2 and least global-warming cars to just 5%. Huge tax breaks on green models could soon save buyers thousands of pounds on new cars. The Government is looking at slashing VAT from 17.5% to only 5% on the least polluting vehicles. On a COOPER D you would save £1509.57 (109g/km CO2) NEW Retail Price £12680.43 On a COOPER you would save £1385.64 (if the cooper got in the scheme with 129g/km CO2) NEW Retail Price £11639.36 Link below: Annoying the COOPER S doesn't make the list. | Giggity-goo! | What they need to do is give tax breaks to car companies who bring efficient hydrogen engines to the market, and to companies who carry out R&D into economically viable means of obtaining and delivering hydrogen. It's the only way we are going to move away from oil. That is the only way they will meet their CO2 reduction targets. Just reducing VAT to 5% so people are more tempted to buy cars that release a bit less CO2 is like putting a plaster on a severed leg to stop the bleeding. ![]() |
