I was due to collect a new MCS on Saturday morning; dealer expected it to arrive today. I understand all dealers received an e-mail this morning prohibiting the delivery of week 31 cars until they had updated the car's system. The problem seems to be with the new stop/start function. This requires new software which will not be available until 20 August. Apparently over 2,000 cars are affected.

My demo has been affected by this...
The update will not become available till the 20th of this month or something.

Oh well, I shall wait & see what happens

Is it just the delivery of week 31 cars that will be affected? I'd imagine that as the software is not available until August 20th (week 34), delivery of week 31, 32, 33 and possibly week 34 cars will be affected - and if so, that affects me, as my car is a week 33 car!

Does the software update occur at the garage or factory?

I think it affects all 2008 models, that is all that have the new stop/start system. Not sure what the implications will be for cars manufactured after week 31. Best to check with your dealer. I suspect they all got the e-mail from Mini at the same time this morning.

Actually, come to think of it, if the software update occurs at the dealership, and is not available until August 20th, then it probably will only be week 31 cars that are affected as it is unlikely in many cases that cars produced in later weeks at the factory will reach dealerships before this date, and thus, delivery times of these cars should be on schedule...

I don't think it will affect us as by the time our cars reach our dealerships, the software will be available, and therefore delivery shouldn't be delayed. Panic over...for now at least...until somethig else crops up!

I think you are correct, it gets done at the dealership. They are hoping to have the CD on Monday 20th August.

Isn't a sign of the times that it is possible that the delivery of somebody's car is delayed...because of a CD!

This problem is now sorted. Dealers received the updated version of the engine management softward on Monday / Tuesday 21/22 August. I collected my car yesterday.
