When I was pulled other month, he advised that I should have had both parts of the driving licence and also my certificate of insurance, although he wasn't in traffic division, just normal routine patrol.
It's not the first a normal routine car has got it wrong, likewhen they tried to say my Sidelights on the MINI were foglights!
Unlike other EU countries, it is not a legal requirement in the UK to carry insurance documents or your driving licence. Or indeed any other car related paperwork.
The police would probably llke you to carry these documents (although all this information is now available to them through the DVLA) as no doubt a certain amount of time consuming paperwork is involved if they ask you to produce your documents at a police station. Time which would be better spent ..... errrr , well stopping other motorists I guess.
