Just rang the dealer down on the Mornington Peninsula and he confirmed the kays,

Apprently the ex owners lived down on the coast there and had a business in Sydney and would drive up regularly (aka very regularly). Car has had a mods done to it also, exhausts etc according to the dealer!!!

My newbie has got over 16,000k new 5months.
My Dads had two cars over 6 years and clocked up 360,000 in that time.

I have sent an email off to the dealer selling the 404,000km car to get confirmation of its kays.

Thanks for the confirmation Michael, I'll hold off on changing the title.

Like I said before, HWS get out there and drive!

that australian mini looks very very tidy considering it has done over 250,000 miles!!!

i have recently (5mths ago) purchased a bmw 525i touring (i know its not a mini!!) that had 202,000 on the clock and i have added another 5000 trouble free miles. i am determined to make the quarter of a million mile club!

high mileage car fascinate me. a university project i am working on researching the highest mileage cars in the classifieds revealed the below. sad to say i havent seen any minis with over 200k in the uk yet. so far i have seen 300 cars with 250k plus of which almost 20% are Mercedes!

1998 Toyota Hiace 598,000
2002 Ford Mondeo Estate 450,000
1995 Mercedes E-Class 425,000
2000 Peugeot 406 406,000
1973 Land Rover S3 400,000
1989 VW Golf GTi 390,000

and amazingly a late 2004 Mercedes S-Class S320 CDi with 257,000 miles.

all these have been verified in order to make my data valid for the project.

If anyone wants to know what the highest mileage car that they have let me know I have far to much data

ps. HWS get a move on!

That's interesting Matt. I saw an article here about a Volvo with a million miles on it. It was publicity, Volvo gave him a new car.

When I was studying I used to do 1000kms a week as well. 7 trips a week (or more) from Yass-Canberra did that. Now I barely do 250kms a week. I did just under 12,000kms in the last 12 months, and have done just over 51,000kms since 25 June 2004.

Just spoke to a friend of mine who drives a BMW 525d (10months old) and it has just rolled over 60,000miles, his last two cars after his 3 year stint driving them have had over 250,000miles on them, they are both still going (his mom has his 2000 BMW 318i 285k and his brother has his 2003 Mercedes C220cdi 260k)

Silk Green This is Beginning To Look Like a Long Week

Now that I've dropped way back to Second Place in the High Mileage Category,
several of you have prodded me to Get Out There - and Try Harder!

But, my 2002 MINI Cooper went into the Body Shop today at 233,375 miles to repair the damage done by that Deer 2 weeks ago.
( I never found her - I hope she's recovered fully by now.)

So, - I've rented a fairly new 'Asian Something', - a 4 Door w/ Automatic, Sunroof, etc., etc.
It's Quiet - It's Smooth - It's Probably Reliable - But, Gee Whiz - It's Dull As Dirt!
No Wonder 'normal' people don't enjoy MOTORING Just For FUN.
If this was my car, I'd probably limit my travels to Going to Church - and Going for Groceries.

My Rocking Chair is More Exciting!

I don't doubt you for a minute, Pobsey.
Every one of the German Cars I drove for the 45 years before this MINI were Great.

But, by 200,000 miles, every BMW and Mercedes that I kept that long required some 'front end' work to keep them driving like 'ultimate driving machines'. (Plus Heater Motors to keep them warm enough so I'd want to be 'in there' during our Long Cold Winters.)

The Endearing Thing about this 2002 MINI is that, at 233,000 miles, the entire Suspension System including Shocks, Struts, Control Arms(?), Ball Joints(?) plus Clutch, Transmission, Exhaust System - even the Heater Motor - are all still original!

And when I had a 'loaner' for a day with just 19,000 miles, I couldn't feel any difference in the Ride, the Steering or the Handling; - mine, with all those miles, felt just as Tight and Solid and Precise as the Current MINI. Never had a car This Good!

What a Joy to have a car I can fill with gas, check the tires,
and Motor Off on a 500 mile Sunday Afternoon Drive - Just For FUN!

These high mileage reports make me ashamed, I don't have 50,000 miles total on all the MINIs I've owned.
