Another ridulous quote from a MINI dealer!!

I thought I'd let you all have a laugh at yet another shocking quote by a dealer!!

I need my clutch replaced and looked on here yesterday to get an idea of what I was looking at. It seemed it would cost about £600 - £1000. First I got a quote from Scotthall in Watford. I laughed at them when they said it would be £1419.55p!!! (£1000 labour for 8 hours and the rest is parts). Scotthall in Borehamwood quoted £1200!!

I then called an indy in High Wycombe which was recommended to me and they quoted £654.88p!! 7 hours labour at £55ph and the rest on parts!

So I've booked it in there for next week with a courtesy car!

How can BMW charge double the price for the same parts??!!!! £1400!!!! What a joke!!

Inga

Are you getting a MINI clutch from the independant though? Chances are it's a pattern part.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Don't forget the real difference in prices I find between the indies (mine uses BMW parts from the dealer) is the labour per hour. BMW is usually x2 what a normal indie charges IMO. I believe its over 80 an hour and in many instances more like 100

Yes this is true but he says that BMW are charging double for the parts. To me this indicates either the dealer are pulling a fast one, unlikely as the parts are already built into the system with the correct prices, or the independent is not using genuine parts.

Pattern parts can be just as good as the genuine article though (they're often made by the same manufacturer) so don't be overly concerned but it's worth asking the question and don't assume they're fitting BMW parts.
