United-Kingdom Driving Lights - Rules and Regs - Whats allowed?

Hello Everyone!

I am a relative newbie having only contributed to a couple of other threads so far but I do have a question or two that I hope some of you may be able to answer for me! (apologies if a thread like this has been raised before!)

I have recently purchased a cherished MINI Cooper, which is a dream come true as I have loved both the classic and new MINI as far back as I can remember! I am tempted to put a couple of driving lights which I know loads of you guys and gals have. Standard BMW proceedure and regulation dictates (correct me if am I wrong) that they should be wired in to the high-beam loop of the wiring loom.

I am relaiably told (thanks MINIMANIA!) that a vehicle is likely to fail MOT if the lights are operated via a separate switch - which ideally id really like!

Basically I want to know if there is any loop-hole to this rule, or is there a way they can be hooked into the standard headlights at a lesser brightness (legally)?

How do you guys/gals have yours configured? If you could let me know I'd much appreciate it!

Cheers,

Peter

PS I am also keen to go on my first MINI run/meet up with other obsessives, any people near Milton Keynes/Bedford?

The rules are that driving lights must come on with the main beam, additional foglights can come on with a foglight switch combined with a warning light of some description.

The only way round it is to have a switch which allows you to stop the driving lights coming on with your main beams, or stops your additional foglights coming on with your regular foglights so you can choose to use them or not.

Operating driving lights manually is illegal without your main beam being on and operating fog lights when visibility is over 100 meters is also illegal.

It was acceptable in the 80's
