does anyone know if the mini cooper has a black box or speed box that records the speed? i think i heard corvettes record this info in the ecu and a backup unit in the dash.

hmmm, speed I dont know. But I know alot of information is actually stored in the key. miles etc. Possible speed is in there.

Not aware that speed is recorded, I believe the ECU will hold most of the vehicles details, I know there is a back up unit for recording mileage data etc...

If you hit the rev limiter it is recorded in the ECU. At least it is in other BMWs.
