Offline | Hi all, I recently posted a thread about selling my old MCS to buy a more practical/economical car. I purchased a VW Golf and does everything i wanted it to do for what i bought it for. It's comfy, easily fits 5 people in, has a good sized boot, cheaper to run/insure/tax. Now even though it does what i asked from it, it just isn't what my MINI used to be. I drive it and I'm not having much fun driving it. It drives itself whereas you have to drive the MINI i found. I loved the sound of my MCS (and of course the speed) but really liked the way it can hold onto the corners. Because of the feedback in the steering it makes you always keep on your toes and you have to drive the car, feeling everything in the road as it comes back through the steering wheel. Whereas the Golf really just sort of cruises casually along with no worries and no thrills. I miss the character of my MINI and just the general fun i had with it. Now I'm thinking about getting a MCS again but am i mad for doing this? As it isn't very practical and as it isn't the cheapest thing to run. I don't know if i could get a cooper as i just love the supercharger whine of my old MCS and gives me a big grin. I'm only 22 and the Golf makes me feel like I'm being too sensible too soon at times .Or is it a sensible thing to do? Yes i miss out on some fun but while trying to save that extra bit each month it certainly helps. I'm torn at what to do. I loved my MINI but i sold it for a reason. Although i didn't expect to miss it as much as i do now. Sorry just rambling now, don't really know where I'm going with this ![]() Any opinions? Thanks |

Offline | I recently sold my Mini as I had use of a Lupo. I found myself driving the Lupo as it was just more practical. Nippy round town, cheap to run and I could park it anywhere without worrying about it. Global Moderator ![]() |

Offline | really depends how much you enjoy "driving" the golf will get you from a to b no problem every time, but the mini will get you from a to b and put a smile on your face as well. ( most of the time ) I've seen me taking the long way round just to have a bit more time in the mini, and I'm 53 !! as said before it's really up to you as to what you want from a car ?? |

| MC57 | Well I am in a similar boat, I'm selling my CivicTypeR because I need a more economical car plus I love the Mini and from reading the forum it's probably going to be even more fun. ![]() Why not get a cooper, thats what I'm going for. It will keep the economical sensible bits you need and let you be 22 and have fun too ![]() |

Offline | excellent advice from Dollie, I should have said it's a cooper I've got, and you do not have to drive fast to enjoy it.....................it's the way it does things, if you know what I mean. cheap for me to insure ( my age helps ) and I see 50mpg on a regular basis. |

Offline | Haha yea i knew people might be a tad biased on here but i think it's a way of telling myself i want a MINI again!!! I will probably test drive both a Cooper and a Cooper S again. I really loved the whine of my MCS though and might miss that if i get a Cooper and i don't want to miss anything out if i change my car (again). Although i am a fan of the Park Lanes ![]() Just feel a tad embarrassed that i am changing my car again so soon after telling myself the Golf was the right choice lol. Really i want to enjoy myself, i enjoy cars and i enjoy driving and the MINI puts a big smile on my face. Even now i still go 'oooh thats a nice MINI' but not to any other cars . The Golf is good, it does what i want but it's just kinda plain. Goes from A to B but with no thrills on the way. Just a safe option it was i guess. |

Offline | Don't forget that the new MCS is better on fuel, i do 99% town driving and mine is doing 34mpg(slightly better than my old MO) at the moment and because of the new stop start system and the lower emissions it's only £115 a year to tax. ..of course you could put your money down on a clubman and be one of the first...and have a little more practicality. ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | Go back to the mini. If you're asking the question, you already know the answer. If I had wife/kids/doberman, I would get a more practical car. But I don't. I'm 25 and want a fit, fast, thoroughly impractical head turner.. so when I got rid of my 05 MCS I bought a 57 MCS. How many Golf drivers have waved at you in the last week? You know it makes sense! |

| MINI2 Regular | Hi, forget the age thing Minis are for everyone young or old. At the age of 36 I bought my a brand new MCS Convertible, knowing it was impractiable as I have 2 kids aged 1 and 3 at the time but I just had to have one. After only 6 months of ownership my sensible boring side took over and I sold it as yes it was impractible, especially with 2 young children. So I went out and bought a Renault Scenic Megane, anyway 3 years of owning this boring, practible family car , I have had enough as I missed my MCS too much. So on Wednesady I went out and bought a 03 MCS hardtop, which I pick up on Sunday. So I say go for it you only live once and I have owned lots of cars over the years and the MCS is the only one I have really enjoyed driving and owning. Go for it you know it makes sense, oh by the way I am 39 now and I still havent grown up ![]() Cheers Nick |

Offline | I swapped my cooper for a Focus RS had it 6 months and wanted my mini back so swapped it for a MCS and never looked back. My bro did the same a few months back he s had 3 MCSs and his dream car a Lotus Elise he bought one and 2 weeks later swapped it back to a JCW. Once you ve had a mini I dont think you ll find any car as addictive as that! |

Offline | Thanks for the replies everyone, much appreciated. Some of you have made very good points and it is very tempting for me to go back to a MINI. That's another thing i love about the MINI is the community is so friendly ![]() I will possibly have a look at going down to my local dealer at the weekend to test drive one to see if it is as fun as i remember it ![]() |
