Offline | Numberplate Code advice/help Dear all, I am from London yet found an awesome deal on a cooper S at the mini dealership in Birmingham..a deal so good...that all the local London dealers were unable to match...the car is due to arrive on an 08 plate in march 08 and is being delivered by transporter to my house in London...the standard numberplate will be B?08??? due to the area being in Birmingham and thus registered in the Birmingham DVLA office....however...does anyone know if it is possible to get an L?08??? plate? surely the dealership can call up a DVLA office in LONDON such as the one in Stanmore or Wimbledon and get the car registered there? Please help as although it doesn't make too much of a difference I would like to have a London plate since i live in London!! Many Thanks ![]() |

Offline | As the car was bought in Birmingham the dealer will register itself and will have been pre allocated a set of Birmingham plates. Buy a a cherrished plate from DVLA from £250! |

| What's Next? | The short answer is no. ![]() Pretty much all MINI dealerships now use the AFRL (Automated First Registration and Licensing) System, which means that numbers are allocated to them by their local DVLA office and they register them as new on site, rather than taking the documents to the DVLA to do it. The result of this is that they cannot register new cars out of area. The only way to get an 'L' Local Tag is to either buy a car from a London dealer, or buy a 'personalised' 'L' from the DVLA. |

Offline | I'm glad I'm not the only one who is bothered about the area letter on the number plate! Sadly, my mini was ex-demo and came from Essex, so has an Essex reg - I'd love it to have a Brummie plate but never mind. On the plus side, the first 2 letters on my car's plate are my initials so I suppose it isn't all bad! Incidentally, what dealership in Brum are you getting your S from? Are they giving you a good discount? |
