Someone has keyed my car :-(

Went outside this morning to discover that some total scum bag has keyed my car all the way along the driver's side, from the headlight back to the rear light

I'm so upset. It doesn't look too deep though so I'm hoping it won't be too hard to fix - is it worth using one of those 'chips away' type people? Any idea on costs?

My experience of the "chips away" type of people are that they do a good job but it does not last, i would take it to a bodyshop, although if it is not too deep you may be able to get it polished out.

Absolute b***ards, if I ever caught anyone keying a car, even if it wasn't mine, I would not be held responsible for my actions! I hope you get it sorted soon, and it doesn't cost you too much. Maybe a car detailer might be able to get it out even if you can't yourself?

So sorry to hear that. I still vividly remember when my 9 month old car got keyed whilst I was inside a shop for a whole 15 minutes.

I ended up having to get the door resprayed. Looks better than new though if you get a good shop.

Hope you can get it sorted.

Thanks for the replies. I think I will get a quote from chips away, someone at work has recommended them. The scratch isn't deep so I don't think I'll take it to the bodyshop.

I live in a terraced house so have to park my car on the road, which leaves it vulnerable to things like this happening :-(

Very sorry to hear about your car Lizzy. I used Chipsaway to do some scratches on my bonnet and some scuff marks on the roof and it cost £30.

Thats kids for you, hence why i take up 2 spaces in a car park when i park, or use the parent and child parking.

You do tend to find the nicest cars, driven by the nicest people parked along way from others in supermarket car parks.

Ive told parents of kids who have opened their doors onto other cars. Not had a positive or respectful responce once.

I wait till they have gone , then put the reg no of the car under the wiper for the injured car owner to find.

This happened to my daughters mini last week. Keyed from the passenger wing mirror all the way to the back light. She decided to have it fixed by a local 'scratch' type person who works for himself and came recommended. He had a laptop and keyed in the paint code from under her bonnet to get the right match when he came out to give her the quote, which was £120. Came to her house last week and after 3 hours working on it, called her outside to apologise but the paint didnt match. When she looked at it she'd now got a nice white stripe all down the side Hers is pepperwhite. He didnt charge her, but now she has to find a body repair person and have the whole door re-sprayed! Shes not a happy bunny as she's only had it a few months Hers is a convertible with private plates and I think people just get jealous!! They want locking up

I had Chips Away look at a scratch on my Civic and he said they couldn't do anything as it wasn't a chip

I hope your's can be repaired quickly, it's awful when people do such pointless, jealous damage.

Well, chipsaway phoned me today and quoted £150 plus vat, which sounds a bit steep to me. Shall have to give it some thought.......

I'm a big fan of chips away, used them a couple of times, never had any issues with paint fade.
