Lots of posts about this in the past. MINI wasn't/isn't the only company with contrasting roofs and decals, and all 'trend setters' like the MINI, well, set trends. So if MINI does it and gets away with it, others are bound to follow.
To be fair the Swift is damn good little car. Your right "its not a MINI" but the swift GTi is damn fun car to drive. I actually think they look smart (although wouldn't decal it in the same manner) just pity even the Swift Gti ain't as quick as an S. Although there is rumours of a Special edition SUpercharged one. Not sure how true that is.
As Paul thoguh said, MINI isn't the only car, just look at some of the old land rovers
Bloomin fiestas are just as bad, theres always a yellow one with black and white checked roof as Morrisons, still they say immitation is the most sincere form of flattery, or something like that!
Ford = found on rubbish dump. only thing special about that car is thankfully it will fall apart or breakdown quickly and not litter our roads for a long time!
Suzuki do offer Bonnet Stripes, Vipers and other graphical bits for the Swift in their accessory brochure, and we have been asked to develope a range for our local suzuki dealership - but totally different to MINI.
1951 Briggs Cunningham Racing according the wikipedia that Step_7 beat me too
and then the Shelby's, but mostly any kinda stripe checked roof etc came from racing teams before big manufacturers
