Shell V-Power Club

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew what the exact qualification criteria were for the Shell V-Power club as I have only just signed up to the drivers club (I didn't previously know it existed) and have been running my Mini exclusively on Optimax and then V-Power since I bought it in 2004. I have looked on the Shell website and done a search but so far have had no luck.

Thanks in anticipation,

Steve

Ps I did look to try to find the most appropraite forum on here but none really stood out as being home to my question so if I've got the wrong one I apologise.

In my case it's taken over 9 x months to join this elite club ...................I politely questioned the entrance criteria and received a very harsh reply.........I think it's like a good pint of Guinness - ha ha!

I don't remember any delay when I joined several years ago, when it was Optimax.

I received my membership card for the V-Power club last week, I've been a member of the DriversClub/PlusPoints for about a year.

I've no idea what the entry criteria is though I'm afraid, I'm actually using less V-Power now (as I no longer use the MINI to get to work) than I was at any time previously (when I would fill up with V-Power at least once a week)

But I would guess you need to be a DriversClub member and use a certain amount of V-Powerfor over a period of time before you qualify

I didn't think this was anymore than a glorified Teasco's Clubcard schene?

Spends thousands on petrol and get points to exchange on tacky gifts?

I was on the Shell drivers club and they sent me a Optimax card, and then transferred me across to the V Power club, very exciting, I have earnt since 2004 a £10 Boots voucher!

Although majority of my refuelling is in Tesco for Super unleaded for the points or the 5p of per litre they ocassionally throw at you in store when spending over £50 on grocery.

Thanks for the replys.

As far as I can assertain the new Drivers Club and V-Power Club are different from their predecessors by the type of rewards offered. The one that appeals to me the most being the money off fuel vouchers.

From further browsing of the Shell site it seems that you can collect points at all manner of shops as seen here Introducing Shell Drivers' Club Online Shopping and get double points if you're in the V-Power Club when compared to the Drivers Club.

Anything that gets me cheaper petrol sounds good to me,

Steve

You are best off buying super unleaded from Tesco and getting £ off vouchers that way

IMO no, supermarkets are notorious for using ethanol to bump up there octane rating, although BMW state that E10 is okay some of the reports I have seen for engine wear, startability and driveability are frightening. I design engines and only ever fill up at Shell stations. Ask yourself this, if Tesco did oil changes would you let them near your car?

same as any other petrol supplied by the other brands all comes from the same storage tank at the refinery

trust me mate the super unleaded arm at the main line refinery is the same one used by shell/bp/texaco and your supermarkets the only difference is that shell bp and the like have a extra button thay press to put the special adative in that you pay the extra for

Shell V-Power Vs Tesco 99RON

Whilst I don't doubt that different suppliers pull fuel from the same refineries I can tell you that Tesco 99 and V-power are not the same fuel.

Although Shell v-power has a slightly lower Average Knock Index ( RON+MON/2) than Tesco (92.5 vs 93) The major benefit of the shell fuel is that shell guarantee that no oxygenates (Ethanol, Methanol, MtBE) are added to the fuel. Adding Ethanol increases the octane rating and hence is used by supermarkets as a way of marketing higher octane fuels.
Greenergy (The company who manufacture Tesco 99, and also responsible for the south easts contaminated fuel last year) specify that 5% ethanol is used in Tesco 99. Even more concerning is that they state 3% Methanol is used in the fuel. Methanol is highly corrosive to Aluminium and rubber components used in fuel handling systems in cars, whilst it won't have a short term effect it will have long term effects. Methanol/Ethanol may also cause damage to paintwork around the fuel filler.

This is why never use supermarket fuel.

Back to your original question

To sign up for the Shell V-Power Club, you first need to join our pluspoints loyalty programme. Then if you buy 300 litres of Shell V-Power fuel in a quarter (for example, from January to March), you will reach the threshold for invitation to the Shell V-Power Club.

Before buying my Coopers S Works I had a Ford Focus ST3. I only ever put Shell V Power in the car and it went like a dream.

I was averaging roughly 18-20mpg and was soon a fully fledged member of the V Power Club.
