Windscreen crack - can I trust Autoglass?

I was driving today and heard a very loud bang. I looked and saw something had cracked my front windscreen. I'm gutted!!

I've spoken to Autoglass and they have been authorised by my insurer to replace the windscreen with anoher original BMW/MINI windscreen which is good, but my concern is can I trust Autoglass to replace my windscreen? I have read a couple of threads with other people who have had the same concern but I haven't seen one with a windscreen with a rain sensing mechanism. I'm worried my rain sensored wipers won't work the same when the windscreen is replaced due to the mechanism not working properly. I'm also worried my car won't look the same after they've replaced it because the black plastic side bits won't be the same when they put them back in.

Should I be concerned or should I just trust them?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Inga

I had mine replaced by Autoglass and they were fine - even put brand new A pillar covers on. The only hitch was the top strip which came loose about a week later - but they arrived the next morning and sealed it in. The guy had 3 other MINI's that morning with the same fault so it's very common. Ask them to secure it with some sealant then you won't get that problem

I've used Autoglass plenty of times, on numerous different cars, and never had any problems/complaints.

On a seperate note, my mum used RAC Windscreens to replace a badly cracked windscreen in her last Corsa.

It was left there for the day to be done, she went to collect it and bought it home. It rained heavy overnight and next morning the the dashboard was wet and the windscreen was leaking. On closer inspection in the daylight the gunk that they use to stick it in had been done in a really shoddy manner and was visable from the passenger side.

The manager got straight on the case and another guy was sent out to the house to sort it. It was replaced again (although rather quickly as the bloke wanted to go home to watch the football ) and luckily never caused any more problems!

Good point Jo, the company is only as good as the person actually fitting the screen.

Tom.

I turned a corner and suddenly I heard a loud cracking noise, I didn't see what caused it unfortunately. It was about 3 inches long and started from the edge of the passenger side bit and is horizontal coming along to my side. Is has cracked about another half inch today.

Did you ask for the A pillar covers or did they just bring them?

be careful when using autoglass, at the end of the day theyr just a general fitter, do tens of different car makes etc...why dont u check up on what price your dealer is giving you? when i had to have a side window replaced, it turned out that my dealers cost was 60pounds less than autoglass (autoglass quote didnt include OEM window or new a panel trim cover - mini quote did...) just food for thought, maybe i just got lucky

I've used Autoglass twice and have been fairly happy with them. The last time they came, the fitter automatically had the replacement a-pillars plus fittings. Not driving the car afterwards for several hours greatly reduces the chance of acquiring rattles. Both times I have had to clean the inside of the a-pillars as they've left greasy finger prints. But I wouldn't have a problem using them again.

I always use RAC now.
Autoglass when replacinig a windscreen of mine cut through my Microphone wire for the hands free car kit, and then tucked it up under the lining!
I had to call someone out to fix, and then bill them for it. Total LOSERS, don't bother using them.

I have never had a problem with RAC.

Hubby has had a couple of windscreens changed and we have had no problems with them. (not on a mini)
I had a chip on my mini done and that was fine.

Not singling you out ALD0, just using your post as an example.

It's amazing how we always use a bad experience to label a company, isn't it?

Had the fitter that cut the cable worked for RAC they would be the "Total LOSERS" and you'd now be using Autoglass.

Thats ok, Well I have had about 6 screens done with RAC, 1 screen done with Auto glass, out of the 7 it was with Auto glass I had a problem with, and that was on a basic non heated/ CORSA windscreen.

I live by the theory that if you have a problem with bad service, you will in turn tell 10 people!

I hope more than 10 people read that, as from my own personal experience their service stinks, and more so their attitude when I was getting the monies from them to cover the cost of their wrong doing.

My older cars I previously owned, some of them I bought from the auctions had stone chips in, which would then develope in to a crack, A pug I bought had like a White mist in the laminate, so I purposely chipped that one for a new screen
I tend to pick up more chips etc down in Norfolk where the roads are flat and the country roads are riddled with a flinty type of stone.
I have had 3 MINI screens replaced due to the dredded stress fractures, I was unable to get these done under warranty as they did their in depth test of running a Ballpoint pen along the crack and telling me there was a minute chip in it causing it to crack!
