mini mirror confusion

Hi

I have a Mini Cooper D (don't laught!) - it's quite torquey you know!

Anyway, I didn't get the folding mirror option fitted however I have the knob which control the mirrors that seems that it would control the ability of the mirors to fold - if I'd opted for it.

Well now I was wishing I did - I opted for the HI-FI upgrade instead - it's good but the folding mirrors would be nice.

I was wondering if it was possible for the dealer to make my mirrors fold (If so how much would it cost) or is it too late, I have a feeling it's too late but you never know?

Didn't wanna ask my dealer because after I placed the order for the mini - the point where I couldn't say no - the dealer became an arse!

Any help would be great.

Thanks

I wouldnt imagine you could get a retro fit kit yet! I wanted to get front fongs rtro fit and they dont even do that so dont think there is much hope for a folding mirror kit. And if they did it would be expencive, would imagne you would need full new mirrors with motors in on both sides, wiring looms, resistors etc and about 3 hours labour @ £103 +VAT an hour. Dont think it would be worth it mate.

You probably made the right decision getting the hifi upgrade anyway. The standard radio boost/cd player in the R56 isn't very good and IMHO isn't as good as the standard system in the 1st generation, which itself wasn't considered particularly great.

Folding mirrors are a cool feature, but I've always thought that 'folded' mirrors could attract unwanted attention. Also if parked in a narrow street, if someone sees your folded mirrors they might take the risk to drive past even closer. Personally I'd rather someone takes my mirror off then the side of the car.

If retrofitting was cheap I wouldn't say no, but I wouldn't pay more than what the option cost in the first place. If you want to improve its strikingly good MINI looks parked up, invest in additional headlamps, stripes, better wheels etc.

You might wish to continue anyway, but if you don't, the above might make you feel better!

hi

got the stripes, chilli pack, hi-fi, heated washers/mirrors (that may have been a waste of cash), and the MF steering wheel (- cruise control is cool). parking sensors and TLC pack.

But in london the swivelling mirrors would have been good - manually fold them now

Love the car - drove a peugeot 207 - not in the cae league at all.

Does anyone know of the nicest ppl - dealers - to goto in the West Midlands for servicing?

Rydale SUCK - only found that out AFTER handing money over - stuuuupid mistake - don't wanna go back and gie them anymore money!

Any help always appreciated.

Thanks for the help guys!

I have to manually fold our mirrors in, unfortunately we don't have a garage , and where we live, it seems to be someones (no doubt some local idiot ) idea of fun on the weekend to try and kick the wing mirrors off the cars on the street (so we need to fold them in) .

We have a 1st Gen R50, and it was before folding mirrors, I know that they do them on the last of the R50s, so I think I'm going to try and have some genuine ones retro-fitted, I did come across some cheap copies once and they were exactly that "CHEAP!" so I didn't even try fitting them.

Mine's the one on the left.

Is there no chance the looms will already be in place for this? - Other than that I would just fold the mirrors in manually. - Personally if some cocky little ** saw my nice car folding its own mirrors in he would probably make it his business to do more damage, if u know what I mean. I would leave it to be honest. Good arm excercise anyway. Just dont do what I do and drive 20 miles without unfolding them lol.

As they are made to order for each customer its unlikely they would waste money on looms you didn't specify you wanted.

I understand that, but I know that there are some things the mini loom is pre wired for, this might be one of them.

I expect retro-fitting them will cost a bomb like everyone else is saying.

Check out the dealership feedback forum for advice about other places to go for your servicing.

And...there's nothing funny/embarrassing about owning a Dooper!!

Correct "The Peanut", if you ain't ordered it, the wiring isn't there for it, although the 6 disk CD cable can be there and the glove box light wiring is sometimes there (this is only sometimes, it's more common on later models ).

Somethings you can have retrofitted , somethings you could have retrofitted, but it ain't worth it , somethings you just can't retrofit . but nearly all retrofits need a wiring kit & possible programing .

The only time I have seen extra wires for possible add on extras is when you order a complete replacement wiring-loom and there are lots of extras on them .

They can indeed bit retro-fitted. I have done so on both my Cooper and present S. The kit comes from Mikethemini at newministuff. They come in two options, one manaul via switch and the other automatic via the remote locking.

Both mine were/are the auto folding option.

The installation is easy (Mike provides a very good DIY guide) and took about 2 hours for the pair.

They are ultra cool and a very good ssafety feature as well.
