A few questions about my new MINI2...

I've only done a couple of hundred miles in my Cooper D but wondered a few things...

- The "walk you homelights" seem to go off as soon as I turn the car off and therefore don't light the path for me. I know it's not even necessary but I thought the idea is that they stay on for a few seconds after you've got out of the car and locked it?

- I've got auto headlights but when I switch them on in the day the dipped beam comes straight on. I was thinking it might be because it's so grey and dull outside at the moment but still not dark enough for headlights by any means?

- My rev counter is slightly off centre on top of my steering wheel. It's slightly off to the left and therefore at a bit of an angle... is this right? It's not a problem but just checking

- Reverse gear can be a little hard to ngage at times so I have to dip the clutch 2 or 3 times to get it in gear. Is this possibly because of the car being brand new and certain things haven't worn in enough yet etc?

That's it for now but the headlights are the main thing. I was hoping it would maybe put the side and rear lights on in the daytime and then put the dipped beam on in darker situations automatically.

I think you can set the timing for the lights to stay on for a set period of time, not sure but worth checking the manual?? If you haven't already...
The gearbox will lighten up the more you use it, mine was still fairly stiff selecting reverse cog after 4000 miles. All good for building up the muscle in the left arm
Haven't got the auto lights, can't help ya there!
And my rev counter was centred but my huge dish speedo was slightly angled. To which my mates all loved to remind me everytime they were in the car

I thought sidelights should only be used when you think your car should be visibly noticeable when parked in dark places...?

you need to activate the follow me home feature by flashing your main beam once you've turned off the engine and opened the door - the lights will then stay on for the time that you've set

can't help with the auto lights I'm afraid, as I don't have those on my S although I do know that you can change the sensitivity if you have the nav, not sure if you can change it in the OBC if you don't have nav though

and the rev counter, I would go back to your dealer, or at least give them a call, as it should be central!

Okay thanks for the info...

Will have more of a play with the computer and mention the rev counter alignment on its first service.

When we got our Cooper with auto lights, the day time running lights were set to on which meant the headlights were always on.

This can be turned off via a setting in the menu.

That definitely sounds like it could be what's going wrong.

Do you know which logo relates to the setting on the computer? The manual's pretty useless when it talks about the auto lights etc.

Thanks

Have changed the setting so hopefully the lights will just come on when they need to now.
