| Test thread infiltrator | I don't have a power steering fan! Was at my mates tyre/exhaust centre today, chatting away, when I thought, after reading about how easily the PS fan is damaged, we thought we'd check mine. So we stuck it on the ramps, set it upwards only to find I don't have one! It's a November 01 build, is this normal? Might explain why it looks like an after thought if it really was an after thought! So far I've been stitched from the antenna amplifier, top clips holding on my rear quarter panels, isofix catch things and the PS fan! Doh! Is this normal for a Nov 01 build? Dom |

| MINI2 Master | Well, that about wraps it up for the "what happen if the delicate fan dies" question. Looks like it can survive without. If I had to guess, they added this after the severe heat testing they did. The North American MINI's get 'em, but they're truly not necessary in the UK. I mean, hot is what? Anything over 70? Offline | No pS fan- excellent I think. It must be early model specific, and it can get hot even in the UK. ![]() The more I think about, I'll bet the fan was put on after/when the S was conceived, due due the extra heat generated in the engine compartment and bigger tires to turn etc. And put on all of them. (Ones too?)Maybe some one knows- MINIguy? Jet Black MCS Lapis leather 17s or 15s (winter) no DSC |

| MINI2 Master | Re: ps fan Anyone know when this started? I have half a mind to stick my head under my Feb. 02 build MINI now... Were the MCSs being built by that time? Offline | Re: Re: ps fan Harry, I think your Coop will have one...when did S production start? Instead of putting a "plate" under the car, maybe they (MINI?) could make a small screen or guard of some kind that would clip onto the fan area- easier, and to get at the oil drain plug. ![]() Jet Black MCS Lapis leather 17s or 15s (winter) no DSC |

Offline | So if they are only really "needed" on the S, would it be possible for Cooper (and One) owners to just "unplug" the fan somehow, and avoid any possible problems in the first place? This seems like an especially viable option in the winter, which luckily also seems to be the time of year most people are worried about. PigLick |
