Mini 08 price increase

Hi guys,

Just got a call from my dealer today stating that if I still want to take delivery of my mini cooper s on March 1st 2008 the price of the car is going up by £290 from that day.

Anyone else got this call as well... Now i am not sure if I should just get the 57reg and save myself £290 or wait for the 08 reg still .

It's such a shame they keep upping the price of these great little cars.

I suppose you just gotta check the resale prices to see if its worth paying the extra £290 to have it on the newer registration. Its silly really though it will be exactly the same car, the only difference being the date at which its registered. Personally, if it were me I'd threaten to take my business elsewhere (if its not too late in the day) if they didn't waver the extra £290, although this is probably a bit difficult if they know you want the car, and also if you are on good terms with the dealership.

There are a few little changes coming in from March... the aux and USB inputs are being moved around slightly so they're more accessible (I'm not sure exactly where to though), and as usual a small price increase comes along as well.

if it was me I would take the car as soon as it's ready, it's still a 08 registered vehicle and that's the important thing.

for the £290 why not buy yourself a private reg !!

when it comes to trading it in in two or so years time a month either way will not make any difference if no major changes to spec have been implemented.

Yep, price increase is mainly because DSC will be standard, plus the other usb change as mentioned above..

It is pretty normal for a car maker to up the price each year. This helps keep the price in line with inflation and any new changes they make.

Was about to post the same. Large corporations like MINI are not immune to inflation and the fact that prices of raw materials and energy are rocketing at the moment. The price of metal, and I believe they still use a bit of this in modern cars, is a prime example. Fortunately for MINI, but unfortunately for us, they can pass these costs on to the unsuspecting consumer

Energy prices in the UK went up circa 17% in the UK in 2007. Don't even think about petrol prices.

Absoloutely - and it costs money to move materials round the production triangle

I agree that everything will have a price increase due to inflation over time. What I don't understand is why customers that placed there orders in 2007 have to pay the new price. Should they not freeze the price at the time you order the car...

No, because they don't know the actual cost and are only giving you numbers based on an estimate until the formal release.

My contract for my 06 (bought in 05) said that the price would change if there was one for the 06. That being said, I was also able to get out of the contract and get my down payment back if I wanted it.

What if they froze it and then the price went down? Would you still be happy then?

I take it that USB will not be standard even though they are going to move the ports around.

Also are there any more known changes apart from the AUX/USB ports and DSC?

Although the ports are undoubtedy awkward to access, they are well hidden for security purposes. I leave my ipod hidden by the USB port . However, for those who require frequent access, they certainly are tricky

There's a couple of new interior trim options for the convertible - a black leather in the same style as the seats in the Sidewalk (similar to lounge leather in the R56)... not much more that I'm aware of though.

and also that the salesman wants his commision asap on the car he's selling you. If its a March car, he has to wait till the end of April so he'll want you to take it asap

I still think that given the hugely over inflated price of the MINI anyway that its a bit much to put the price up even more, despite the fact that as many have rightly pointed out prices for energy and parts have gone up a lot recently. Thats the price you pay for buying such a popular car I guess. Maybe I'm not in touch with reality though as I think that massively profitable organisations like BMW ought to be a bit more generous at times!
