Offline | Sounds great fun, but won't there be legal problems CCTV-ing the general public? I've heard of householders coming unstuck if their cameras record anything other than events on their own property (eg - no passerbys on the pavement). Invasion of privacy and all that malarkey! SSL |

| Giggity-goo! | Generally if the camera is in a fixed position and the images you are recording are for a genuine reason of reducing crime you will have no problem. For example, you may very well need to capture some of the pavement outside your house/property in order to catch vandals throwing things. The problems arise when you have a PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) camera where you can follow people. In this case you have to inform the Data Protection Commissioner. Also you are not to store the images recorded for a time longer than is reasonably necessary. For example, recording from cameras at your house I would say 2-3 weeks is reasonable as you may be on holiday when someone breaks in. Cash machine recordings are usually longer, in the region of 3-6 months as people don't see their bank statements that often and if someone has cloned their card to use a cash machine they can replay the footage. As for incar CCTV; it would be interesting if you could have the system linked to the car alarm so that if some retard tries to steal your car it is activated. I don't think you would have any problems legally. ![]() Last edited by Fin : Jan 8th, 2008 at 01:08 PM. |

Offline | I'd be interested in this also Mikey.... I've seen systems in the US that continually hold a couple of minutes of video (a bit like Sky+ does with live TV), and in the event of an incident you can press a 'capture' button, so the last couple of minutes of your journey are automatically saved... Would your gadget be something along those lines? These things certainly help with insurance claims etc... ![]() |

| Thinking Minis | I have one of those! It was strapped to my rear spoiler at Castle Combe! With a 2Gb car it records about 45 mins in its highest res. I think I paid about £60 for it from the US with the 2Gb card It also fixes to the towing eye very nicely! For All Your Mini's Needs ![]() 01905 620011 |

Online | The system I am looking at has a very small bullet type camera & seperate reccorder The recorder takes SD cards It has manual start & stop buttons & will continuously loop record like a black box on a plane. It also has a G sensor so will record the evidence leading up to a collision It records at 6-8fps With the supplied 512mb sd card it records for 1 hour, larger cards can also be used I am looking at building Mini specific plug & play kits |
